Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This lookout is just a short drive from town and well worth the time. The 360 degree view covers both the town and the country side.

From Pretty Woman--
Vivian: Wow! Great view! I bet you can see all the way to the ocean from out here.
Edward: I'll take your word for it. I don't go out there.
Vivian: Why don't you go out there?
Edward: I'm afraid of heights.
Vivian: You are? So how come you rented the penthouse?
Edward: It's the best. I looked all around for penthouses on the first floor, but I can't find one.
And here I was again, looking up at another tower knowing that when I climb the tower I will start to shake. I questioned myself as to why I keep doing it and remembered this quote above... Why did I keep doing it? --It's the best! I keep looking for views on lower levels but I can't find one.
The Bristol Hill Pioneer Memorial Tower was built in 1933 during the Great Depression. It was based upon and named after Bristol Reef, which was mined from the late 1850's. It was constructed largely of material from the old Maryborough Gaol. The tower is located at the edge of Bristol Hill Reserve and offers amazing views of the town and surrounding bushland.
There is plenty of parking... and the tower itself is quite easy to get to the top with a winding staircase. The only real issue with this area is that it's not well maintained. You can see the tyre marks of the local hoons in the carpark and there is a bit of rubbish laying around. But ... other than that... this is worth visiting for the view.

If you've got a few minutes to drive up the hill to this lookout, you do get a view over the town. I found that walking around the town itself was a more enjoyable experience.

My wife and I visited Maryborough from our accommodation based in Castlemaine on Friday 22 October 2021.
After reading TripAdvisor we decided to make our way to the Bristol Hill Lookout which is supposed to give a 360 degree view of the township below. Unfortunately for us the facility is closed. The erected signs stated it was being structurally assessed by the Dept. of Environment, Land, Water & Planning (DELWP). No doubt it would offer the 360 degree views, and standing below it only gave us very limited views of the township due to the obstruction of trees. Such a pity!

definitely the best place to go to get a great view of the country surrounding Maryborough.
The lookout can be reached after a short drive from town and I would not like to try and walk up there, very steep. At the lookout you can walk inside the tower to two levels and view the district from within but the top level is by far the best. Worth the effort

Not a very well signed tourist spot difficult to find from main street although the area once located is very pretty and the tower itself is impressive .Stairs are very steep and can be accessed one at a time specially if someone is on their way down. Not much parking at the site and very difficult for people with walking difficulties to access.View from top of tower is well worth the climb.

Just got back from Bristol Hill!
My 8yo daughter loved it.
Went up 4 times, so she did!
Quite a reasonable view with a decent amount of history!
It was worth a squiz!

There is nothing else to do in Maryborough so why not?!
It's close to town centre, easy to get to and free. Nice breeze. Nice view.
Good phone reception :P
Some nice walking tracks around.

Great lookout that you can drive all the way to top. The lookout was built in the 30s and is an easy climb. Check out the historic worsely cottage on way here
