I would like to extend a heartfelt thankyou to all involved with Saturdays service. From the moment we arrived we were cared for with such friendly attention and care. We felt very comfortable and Covid safe with wonderful and cheerful service onboard. A delicious meal with excellent and friendly service at the Kangaroo Hotel and a pleasant trip home. We hope to bring more friends on board with us next time we travel and will highly recommend you to all interested. Ales on Rails a lovely, relaxing day out.

We travelled First Class in Tambo and the trip was even better than shown on the website promotion. Train host, Helen, was really helpful and informative. Great value for money and plenty to eat, see and do when you get to Maldon.

We did the Castlemaine to Maldon steam train trip . The trip is interesting and informative, the best part is the 2 hour stop over in Maldon . It was easy with a shuttle bus to drop us off in town and take us back to the station. Just enough time to shop, sightsee , and eat lunch . Great volunteers , great value , pretty towns .

We were a group of 14 and did the Ales on Rails. It was fantastic. The carriage we were in was amazing, it had been done up over COVID and the décor was beautiful. The Ales and Platters were spot on. Our Guide on the train Max was full of knowledge and nothing was too much trouble. Money well spent and we couldn't recommend this enough.

As part of a weekend trip to Castlemaine, Dad, my brother and I rode the Victorian Goldfields Railway (first class) from Castlemaine to Maldon. Between Dad being a steam train enthusiast and having celebrated his 70th birthday, my brother and I treated him to the ‘ride with the driver’ experience. Between seeing Dad enjoy the experience and the state of euphoria the experience has left me in, it was worth every cent we spent. Between throngs of excited passengers and the awe one feels seeing the steam train pulling into the station, the latter followed by people flocking to get pictures with the train, I couldn’t help thinking of the boarding scenes of James Cameron’s ‘Titanic’ and its accompanying soundtrack; especially that in the part where Captain Smith says ‘Take her to sea, Mr Murdoch. Let’s stretch her legs.’ While the original furniture and gas lamps from the carriages are long gone, its decor conjured up images in my mind of Murder on the Orient Express and half expected to see people dressed like extras from Miss Fisher and/or Frankie Drake mysteries. Passengers are given 2 hours exploring time in Maldon before the train heads back to Castlemaine. Although small in size, Maldon’s picturesque falling leaves and Sovereign Hill vibe added the right amount of zest to the experience. The opportunity to play with a tank engine at Maldon station was the icing on the cake.
