Definitely worth a visit for anyone interested in the Civil War. Cromwell’s Castle at the foot of the hill is better preserved than King Charles’s Castle on the summit. You can enter the tower and then climb the stairs all the way to the top....More

Such lovely scenery - a rounded coastal castle in a secluded location with Bryher in the background (and the Hangman's rocks). Unfortunately we didn't get the opportunity to have a look inside as we were rushed for time getting the boat back to St. Mary's....More

We always visit both castles on Tresco on walk around island . Our friends up Kids - 18-23 still love them after all these years. Great views across to Bryher

Getting to the castle is challenging, there are no toilets or gift shops, but if you like history then this is perfect, great views from the top, and if you look you can find historic graffiti, personally I would like to know what role this...More

Love the secluded feel to this location, feels like it has its own little section of Tresco. The view from the top is stunning, as you can see many different parts of the Scillies ta one time.

Access along the coastal path from New Grimsby was a little challenging in a couple of places. An easier route is along the top of Castle Down to King Charles' Castle and then down to the shoreline.

We spent the day on Tresco, having caught the boat from St Martin's where we were staying. We picked up a free map on arrival on the quay and were able to follow the coastal path to Cromwell's Castle. A lovely walk, with a great...More

I was impressed at the state of the building and ability to access the whole place. Maybe more of a fort than a castle. Especially interesting when comparing it to the earlier King Charles Castle just up the hill. Fabulous location.

We passed this on our walk round Tresco. it has been properly preserved, unlike the ruined King Charles castle further up the hill, which was deliberately destroyed in the Civil War. There are good views from here along the water separating Tresco from Bryher.
