We passed this on our walk round Tresco. it has been properly preserved, unlike the ruined King Charles castle further up the hill, which was deliberately destroyed in the Civil War. There are good views from here along the water separating Tresco from Bryher.

A great view down the harbour towards St Mary's. An up and down narrow path to get here along the edge from Tresco ferry, or much longer and over the top via Charles Battery from the northwest side of Tresco.

Arrive by the early boat - visit the gardens then walk round the island and see Cromwell's castle and Kings Charles Castle. A great day out.

Let’s be honest there’s not much that is free for the kids now. Once you have paid your boat fare to get to Tresco (or if you are staying there) the island is bigger than it looks. There is the gardens which can easily absorb...More

This sea defence is a short walk from the quay along typical scillian footpaths taking you across rocky ground, grass path and a myriad of things to trip you up. The castle itself looks in remarkable condition and quite clearly was never on the receiving...More

Very well preserved civil war structure, even has loads of 300 year old graffiti scratched into the plaster work by soldiers who were stationed there during that period. Wonderful views across the sound towards neighbouring island of Bryher. Bit of a hike to get there,...More
