My wife wanted to follow the steps of St. Lucia of Fatima, so we visited the Apparition Chapel in Pontevedra. We had time left and went to the basilica. It is old but in great shape. There is a surreal Crucifix near the side entrance...More

Not entirely sure how much we liked this cathedral. It has some excellent stonework on the outside, particularly on the main facade, but the interior isn't that great. And the smell of damp was rather strong. It's a pity as Pontevedra is a great town,...More

This is such a peaceful church with a simple interior retaining almost all of its original Romanesque features. There are fascinating carved panels in the granite stone wall either side of the rear door. The vaulted ceiling is beautiful, but the best feature is the...More

Impressive church, with lots of beautiful carvings outside and the most wonderful vaulted pillars and ceiling. The alter and pulpit are of carved dark wood and form a most impressive sight, drawing your eyes towards them. Very peaceful place.

We stayed one overnight in Pontevedra on the way to Santiago de Compostela and took a walk to the old town. We came across this beautiful Basilica and went the to rooftop for a nice view of the town. It was a memorable visit.

The basilica is a few minutes walk from the main part of town but the walk takes you past many wonderful old stone buildings. The basilica has wonderful exterior carved stone. Inside there are many wonderful statues and paintings but sadly no pictures are allowed....More

Go see the blue ceilings and impressive altar also with many blue accents. Interesting place for photographers. Closed during lunch time.

Not such a "little" church but a gem anyway. It is more beautiful on the inside than on the outside, with some great carvings and a lovely altarpiece. Photos are not supposed to be taken inside but no-one seemed to pay any attention to this...More

Absolutely beautiful inside...you can also get a sello for you Camino credential. We visited on a fiesta and the cathedral mass was packed and the plaza beautifully decorated in galicia style, Inc parades and bagpipes.

A church built on the pennies of mariners. Less fancy than the other 4 large churches in or near the city's old quarter but just as worth a visit, even for atheists like me. Nice stone carvings of biblical scenes, inter alia. Separate museum/treasury. Serves...More
