Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A very long potentially amazing beach. The surroundings are a litter strewn wasteland. Anyone coming by bus do not get off at Afandou Golf bust stop you need to get off at Afandou Bay stop.
Wouldn't come back.

A nice beach for somewhere to cool off. There is a small watersports place do hire a het ski, peddalo kind of thing. Sunbeds are 5 euros each, worth it given the pebbles.
There is a kantina for refreshments but be aware he can be shadey and tried to rip you off. Just have ypur wits about you.
Otherwise a nice pebble beach to chill out

Gorgeous beach, 2 sunloungers, parasol and 2 bottles of water 14euros by the bar. Sea is perfect for swimming in, water is so clear and isn't nearly as crowded as other beaches on the island. Just be careful when first going in the sea as its very stony for the first 2feet, would recommend this beach though as its beautiful

we had a mile walk to the beach. was 12 euros for two beds and brolly the beach was quite nice. the sea went deep quit quickly. only went one day because there was only a little caravan with chairs under the trees for food. but there was only sandwiches and drinks. sandwiches were very dry not nice at all. if the taverna across the road was open we most probably would of returned to the beach more.

We loved this beach. Very tranquil with some lovely cafe bars. We didn’t pay for sun loungers and parasols so long as we purchased our drinks from the adjacent bar. The beach itself has shingles rather than sand but was very easy on the feet. The water is calm and shallow so perfect for kids.
We went back for a morning run and to watch the sunrise which was beautiful.

A clean beach with lots of stones & pebbles.
Very close to where we stayed so took a stroll & found it.
At the time we went there wasn’t many people there, although there was a lot of stones it was a nice clear & clean beach. However there is a large dip in the water making it rather difficult to get out elegantly!!

Nice area but very pebbly and sore on feet. There is a cafe further down that serves snacks. On entering sea it is also full of pebbles and there are other sandy beaches nearby worth the trip. Ask your hotel or a local for the best location.

A bit of history about Afandou. It was deliberately built out of sight of the sea to protect it from marauding pirates during the middle ages. Nowadays the attraction is something else. If you have the chance to book in one of the hotels near the beach, do so. It’s over 4km long, assure shades of blue and an absolute paradise.
The beach truly massive, there are some larger, but not many as good on the island and the med! Warm water that is absolutely crystal clear, kids would love to explore the caves on the left hand side of the beach, great big rocks and caves.
The Saint Luka Festival is held on the 18th October to close the season off, it opens with the Saint George Festival on the 23rd April
The village was founded as I have previously said during the era when pirates used to raid many of the Mediterranean islands. In that age, the people of various villages and seek safety in the mountains that form the centre of the island. Afandou, means invisible in Greek or “afandos", as it cannot be seen from the sea.
Located 5Km up the road from Faliraki, you get to it from the main road to Lindos duel carriageway. and it is one of the largest and oldest villages on Rhodes. Packed with olive trees full of fruit towards the autumn, the village is famous for its carpets. We purchased a silk rug locally made that is 1.5 metres by 4 metres for only €45.00. Afandou is quite large, not really a tourist staying location like Lindos, the population is well over 6000 people and as such, there is a range of shops that sell far more that most of the tourist villages.
One fantastic place of interest on the way back from the beach must be the church of Our Lady on the village's main square. Dependent on the time of day the square has a lot of the older locals there who use it as a meeting point. The square has a great selection of bars that are really local, which means basic rooms, plus there are a few old restaurants there. There is a well stocked supermarket that sells food and a range of souvenirs, make sure you visit the folk law museum, it’s quite interesting.
The beach and village are a little track apart, it’s an easy walk of around 500 metres, but the bonus is during the summer where a road train connects the village to the beach.
Make sure you take the time to go and have a look at the church of Our Lady Katholiki. It has a whole range of 17th century wall paintings. If you are staying or visiting in August, you will be lucky enough to see the big religious festival is held in Afandou.
The last thing that really does not interest me is that Afandou has the islands only for Golf course which is next to the village. You are able to book a round and hire you clubs for as little as €40
I hope you enjoyed my review, if you did, please give me a helpful vote.

A beautiful beach. There are beds for a fee, there is a place without sun beds and free. The sea is clean.
If you reach the end of the beach to the side of the mountain, where you can make beautiful pictures. Recommend.

Lovely Clean beach, free sun beds, beautifully clear water.. just a shame about the pebbles!
Oh and if you stay still for too long in the water little fish start nibbling at you!
Theres a little beach cafe too which is reasonably priced and has a variety of food and drinks.

Hi have just read your review on Afandou beach. I notice you stayed at the Nimar, and as that is where we are staying in just over 2 weeks, could you give me any more info on what the beach has in way of a taverna sun beds and brollies etc., we have never been to this part of Rhodes before, so any advice on catching buses to Rhodes town or to Faliraki beach or any other beach that we could visit would be very useful. We don't drive now so have to use public transport. Thanks.
Written 10 May 2019
I’m sorry I don’t know where it says that I stayed at the Nimar? We didn’t, we stayed in Ialyosos. It was my 3rd visit to Rhodes.
We hired a car which worked out at €20 a day having it fit more than 3 days. There are plenty of bus stops and bus routes. I’m not sure about all hotels but the excursions from our hotel, in my opinion, were over priced. You can easily do all activities you wish if you carefully plan prior to your visit, make notes of all bus stops and their times.
The Island is beautiful and it doesn’t take too long to get to and from some fantastic places.
Do you like to see and experience the history or are you looking for beaches? If it’s beaches then I recommend all of these:
Lindos
Anthony Quinn’s bay
Pefki
Let me know if there’s anything else you would like to knoe

Hello we are staying nearby. Is there a sandy beach within walking distance?
Written 5 August 2018
Hello there! Not within walking distance but if you walk to the bus stop on the square in town there are plenty of buses to and from sandy beaches that are all within 25 mins - and hour away. Hope this helps have a fab holiday.

Hello! I’m coming to Afandou in July and wondered if there was bike hire? Many thanks
Written 30 January 2018
Hi there Lydia, I didn't see one but there isn't much at all in Afandou and, as we went at the end of September, things were closing down. I believe there was a motorbike hire on the square in town. Sorry I can't be of further help to you. Enjoy your holiday to Afandou. Lynne
