Chateau Laniote has been in the same family for almost two centuries. Arnaud de la Filolie, assisted by his oenologist wife, Florence Ribereau-Gayon has been in charge since 1989. The vineyard spread over 12 acres at the North-West of Saint-Emilion. The soil is made of Clay and Limestone on subsoil of Astéries limestone. The grape varieties are Merlot 80% Cabernet Franc 15% Cabernet Sauvignon 5% aged of 32 years. The vinifications are traditional and the wine is aged 12 to 14 months in oak barrels with 45 to 50 % of new oak.

A small chateau worth visiting thanks to the pleasant owner who was our guide. It was just the two of us and we spent a nice half-an-hour visiting, watching an interesting video, chatting and tasting a glass of wine. We left with a smile. Recommended

Nice little winery to visit in St Emilion, though not sure it should rate higher than the Monolith church itself but should certainly rate a lot higher than the mediocre Ch Cantenac that is currently rated no. 1 place to see in St Emilion!!
