We took forge trail which is the main trail in for seeing the falls. Very beautiful. No dogs allowed on this trail... I can understand why. Not overly busy, we were even able to grab some shots with no on in the photos. Trees turning...More

This Park and gorge were beautiful! Walking the 1.5 mile gorge with 832 stairs was daunting for myself and my friends....all 65 and above..we took a few breaks here and there after climbing several sets of stairs but it was worth it..the falls are beautiful..there...More

If you love nature, you MUST go here. The waterfalls were amazing. I will admit there are A LOT of STAIRS! But there are plenty of platforms to take a break. Make sure you wear your hiking boots and a light rain jacket. You will...More

I can't recommend this park enough. It does get crowded and backed up as people stop to take photos, but it's all worth it. The cost to park in the lot is extremely reasonable ($8) and there is no actual entrance fee. The multiple waterfalls...More

The park takes your breath away. We started at the bottom and went only to Rainbow falls. These are some of the most beautiful falls and scenery we have seen. Unfortunately the shuttle was not running when we were there. If you plan on making...More

We hiked the entire Watkins Glen - took the Gorge Trail to the end and then the Indian Trail through the woods back. Beautiful sights, dress appropriately as it is muddy and can be cold. Although there are over 800 stairs, the hike is not...More

We returned to Watkins Glen for the first time in 20 years. There's a new modern entrance to the Gorge with expanded parking. Parking is still tight on a weekend, but you can park for free on the street 3 or 4 blocks away. The...More

One of the most beautiful parks I have ever visited. The waterfalls were amazing. There are several marked trails throughout the park One trail takes you along and behind the many falls. There are several bridges to cross and over 800 steps. The trail does...More

I must say overall that gorge is awesome. Just returned and disappointed in the foliage, no color, pretty much bland. Some locals think it’s coming and others not so much. I based my visit off of the ILOVENY website. Area was to be near peak....More

I've visited over 100 countries and I found Watkins Glen incredible. I visited on a slightly rainy midweek afternoon in October, so it wasn't too busy. The smell of the pine and earth, the fall colours, the rock cut walkways and the pounding falls were...More

I suppose so. Depending on what you are used. Maybe start on the opposite end so you can walk downhill.

The Park is open all year, with the shuttle only on weekends after Labor Day. Some areas or trails can close due to bad weather, usually for a day or two only. I would call ahead once you're in the area just to be sure.

I do not know for sure, but mid-October has great weather in Upstate NY, so I think it will be open. Let me know if you need more tips on anything.
