Saint Cirq Lapopie is certainly an interesting looking and attractive village and the modern infrastructure for tourism re car parking etc is well done. Through renovation the style of the buildings has been maintained and the overall look is of a rough and tough looking village. Of course this is no more than an illusion and, unlike some other renovated old villages, this one feels soulless.

I applaud the renovation of buildings and houses, but do so even more when they are still lived in and used by the sorts of people who originally inhabited them. In the case of Saint Cirq Lapopie there was no evidence of continuing village life when we were here and the place has been artified to the extreme. I admit to not being particularly fond of potteries, art shops etc. so wasn’t impressed by the plethora of them here. Add the fact that almost all other shops etc were selling tourist tat or were restaurants and it feels more like a Disney creation than a real place.

By all means you should come and enjoy the views of an attractive old-style village - but make sure that you wear sensible non slip shoes as the steep hills can be very slippy if slightly wet.

You will not be disappointed. Spectacular, cliff hanging, jaw dropping village. Lots of options for lunch and fun things to do. Not suitable for disabled.

You can leave the car on one of the 6 parking spaces and then you walk downhill to start your visit of the village, it resembles a medieval village and is very pleasant to walk there, it has small shops, a ruin of a castle, an Tourist office, need houses and the beautiful church, and also for the empty stomachs there is plenty of choice. Highly recommended.

We stayed in a house built approximately in the 1200's. Trekking up the hill into the charming village of Saint Cirq-Lapopie several times during our stay to shop and explore the church and ruins of the castle. It is early in the tourist season so not all the shops were open. And it seems that some shops open at random and most all close sometime between noon and 3:00pm. Most shops do not accept credit cards for small purchases. Most shop owners speak some English, especially if you've made an effort to speak French! Always say 'Bonjour'!

We did not have the perfect day as there was fog and also some rain, but we enjoyed our visit none the less. The village is an incredible jewel of preservation with houses and shops restored to maintain the unique 14th-15th c. architectural unity. Parking requires some guidance, as you must pass by the village and drive to Parking Village, to get closest by foot. The pathways are a bit steep and best to have a cane or umbrella if you want security. We walked down to the glorious church along the stone streets, but the village was mostly empty. Coming back up, we did find a couple of shops and cafes open and more people seemed to be arriving. The site, posed over the river Lot, is dramatic but you feel it more from the other side or the exit road than in the village itself.

A beautiful and harmonious village for certain. It offers nice panoramic views over the countryside. But for me also a case of "it's not the destination, it's the journey towards it". The  drive through the Lot valley, the panoramic view on Calvignac from the D622, and the hike from Bouziès to Saint-Cirq-Lapopie over the Chemin the Halage are my most fond memories at the end of the day. Going to this village was a good excuse to experience those memories.

The town has an amazing situation, spilling down a steep hillside, with cobbled streets and alleyways. The view point are well worth walking to, and an amble will show you many fine mediaeval buildings. All is in fine condition.

To judge by the extensive carparks, and travellers' tales, you would be wise to visit out of peak season. In hot weather, seething with tourists, St-Cirq would be a very different experience. One that I personally would avoid.

We spent half a day exploring this delightful village. Lots of little lanes, with plenty of restaurants, cafes, arty-type shops, gift shops etc. It's all up and down and the walk high-up to the best view point would be challenging for the less mobile. Great views, looking down the hill side. A lovely place overall and it didn't feel too busy.

Saint Cirq Lapopie is beautifully located on a rock high above the river Lot. Walking its streets is stepping back in time as they are lined with lovingly restored (mostly) medieval houses.

I participated in a guided tour hosted by the Tourist Office, lasting about two hours. Leonie proved an excellent guide : knowledgeable, passionate about heritage and open to questions. She showed us the highlights of the village (castle ruins, church, main street), pointed out architectural details and commented ongoing excavations.

The entire village is a pedestrian zone and there are fine artistry shops, atmospheric restaurants and cozy terraces.

Be aware that there Is a lot of steep ground to cover.
