Simply a breath taking trek to see the magnificent silver back gorilla's. The Rangers and porters went out of their way to make our gorilla experience exceptional, our 82 year old auntie was carried up the mountain via a day bed to ensure her dream of seeing these great apes in their own habitat was fulfilled, can't get any better... This is the place to go for Golden Monkeys. It sounds anticlimactic after a day of gorilla trekking, but they are really fun to watch! Strongly recommend.

There is only one habituated group here (11 gorillas but 5 silverbacks) and since the Park is less well visited it is a much more personal experience. We did not know you could track here (we did at Bwindi and Virunga) so had to make a last minute booking via our UK agent - thanks Steppes Travel! The trek was... More

Excellent place to see Gorillas. There is one Gorilla family which is habituated for tourists. They have now settled down in Mgahinga and don't crossover to Rwanda . Truly one of the most relaxed group of Gorillas which will come very close to you and even try to touch you. There are FIVE SILVER BACKS in this group and we... More

I've hiked two of the volcanoes in Mgahinga national park: Sabinyo in 2012 and Muhavura in 2016. Both provide tremendous challenges in different ways. Sabinyo is I think more mentally challenging. When you get to the first peak after about 2-3 hours you feel a sense of relief, only to have the other two peaks looming over you. The near... More

We chose to climb the smallest volcanoes, Gahinga. It took a little under 6 hours up and down. The ascent is about 1100m. Views were fab, and our guide Gloria was informative, helpful and charming. I chose This volcano ahead of the biggest one (too much unknown physical challenge and altitude?) And the more spiky one (some of the accounts... More

Taking a 8 hr bus ride from Kampala was worth every minute spent with the family of 8 mountain gorillas!!! Since tour operators book permits to bwindi, mgahinga is only visited by independent travelers. As a result I had the gorillas to myself (a solo female traveler) and couldn't ask for anything else. My guides were absolutely phenomenal. Thank you... More

The cost of doing this is huge. But it is the same in all the neighboring countries. There is a team that goes out early to track the gorillas, they then radio in the position, and the trekking begins. Our group was small only 6. We a had a fair hike of 2hrs up and down the valleys, which was... More
