Nice piece of architecture housing a small museum
Feb. 2019 • Solo
The Beit al Amani houses a museum that condenses the history of Zanzibar, there are some cultural artifacts, and some historical narratives about Zanzibar, but nothing much else. Half-an-hour would be enough to fleet through the exhibits and read the labels on the exbihits. There's an entry fee of TZS 6,000 that also covers the Natural History Museum a few paces from this museum.

Lovely building, small museum

Lovely building a short walks from the centre of Stone Town, a small fee to enter and a few interesting items. Could be so much more with a bit more effort.

Beautiful Building

This is a beautiful building in a location where you can walk around and enjoy Stone Town. Sunset is a perfect time to visit.

Would have been a good self guided tour.

This is a single building with historical items from the history of Zanzibar. Everything was labeled so that we could have read things for our selves. Our guide felt that he had to explain everything and it was unnecessary,

Worth a look if you come by

The peace Memorial is a fine building (style wise, I think I'd class it colonial Art Deco), intended to commemorate the end of the First World War (that definitely touched Zanzibar). However, nothing is left from the building's original contents. From other reviews I find that the collection changes quite often. During my visit, the subject was crafts, with a nice corner about kangas' wooden block printing, and some interesting carpentry. In all barely worth the (low) entry fee.
If you happen to pass by-it is definitely worth a peek--if only to enjoy the fine, cool interior.

Worth spending half an hour here

This is a small museum/exhibition of local artifacts, old tools, few paintings etc. Everything is written in English and was informative in a fairly limited way. The entrance fee included entrance to the next door natural history museum. By western standards this was a pretty depressing dusty collection of stuffed animals and old bones! There was quite a big collection of shells.

Not nearly as expansive as some of the other museums in Zanzibar

The building is absolutely beautiful and if you are walking by it is worth it to check out the Peace Memorial Museum. However, when we were here June 2015 it was definitely a work in progress. Hopefully, the exhibits will become more organised in the future.

Overall, don't go out of your way to go, but if you are in the area and have half an hour, do visit.

Unexpected peace

This small building is opposite Stonetown's hospital and we found serenity and cool inside compared to the jostling local roadway. Excellent layout of local Arts and Crafts.
