Had heard about this park and wanted to check it out for myself. Your first stop has to be the welcoming center where they have explanations of all the different trails that are in the area. How difficult, how long and what you might see...More
Sterling Forest State Park is a beautiful Park with an awesome lake. You can see all kind of birds, even some who are just in this area. The park is clean and neat, but not overly organized. Good adventure for a couple of hours.
Spent a little time at the Visitors' Center. It has a lot of historical and interesting geological facts about the area. There are clean, ample bathrooms for use. The small gift shop enables visitors to purchase apparel, mugs, stickers, kid activities, books, etc.
Located only an hour from New York City this amazingly beautiful park has everything for the family, Forest, Lakes, Wildlife, Hiking, Fishing and pleasant country roads. Not crowded and there is a visitor center that is well worth a stop.
About 4 1/2 miles. Entrance near the Visitor's Center pass briefly by a residential section to the West and a Environmental Research Center to the east. The hike was West to East registered having 21 flights on my phone.
The blue markers were excellent.
