We traveled to Albany area to hear Albany Pro Musica at Troy's EMPAC; the concert itself was stunning and I was surprised to find such a large and excellent choral presence in Albany. The hall itself is a beautiful gem of a performance space, both esthetically and acoustically excellent, tho patrons seemed to be wandering around, not sure of the... More

I said the quietest, maybe it isn't, they don't claim that. However, it is the quietest you are ever likely to experience. The facility is beautiful inside, and acoustically as close to perfect as is unreasonably possible. They spared no expense to make a technically amazing, flexible hall, with two performance studios (black box) and a smaller hall to match.... More

On the hill, located on the RPI campus is EMPAC. There are multiple performance halls and main concert hall (Big wooden ball) once earned the award for most acoustically perfect building. It has since lost the title to another building on Europe. The staff helps artists execute their performances in a lot of ways. On most nights you can catch... More

On the campus of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), EMPAC stands out as very impressive when viewing the Troy skyline from the west side of the Hudson River. Some early reviewers have been disappointed that this facility was not being utilized as an entertainment venue. Certainly, “entertainment” is in the eye of the beholder, but there should be no excuse for... More

This facility is offered as one of the most advanced performing arts centers in the US, if not the entire world. Its excellent acoustical properties are commonly touted in tours, but in the multiple performances I have been to, these have never come into play. The managers of this facility mostly book based on the "experimental" side of this center,... More

EMPAC is the most modern-looking building on RPI campus as well as in Troy NY. It has auditoriums and theaters, and also has one or two diners. The terra cafe serves $7 lunch on Wednesday

The EMPAC is a state of the art modern facility, just up the hill from the downtown district of restaurants and bars ... ample parking, very comfortable... if you can find a concert you would like to experience, this is a great place to do so... the offerings are eclectic though

We attended a conference at EMPAC and so did not experience a performance there. But we were blown away by the technology and the acoustic perfection of the studios and hall. Don't miss the video loop in the lobby showing the building under construction.

I was there on a college visit with my son. I enjoyed marveling at the architecture on the inside and out. What's interesting is that there is a balcony behind the stage. You don't see that very often in performance spaces, unless it's a theatre-in-the-round.
