There are great views and a lot of history, I have been to Fort Wadsworth several times and never has it been overly crowded which is really nice. It's a very peaceful and relaxing enviroment. I love to bring my guests from out of town to this spot and they always take the best pictures of the bridge. It's a... More

The Fort is an underappreciated resource on the island. During migration seasons in the Spring and Fall, there is EXCEPTIONAL BIRDING here near the beach. In the summer, there is a campground that caters to Europeans seeking to stay in NYC on a budget. Great views of NYC from under the bridge. A real find. There is Revolutionary War history... More

Located under the Varrazano-Narrows Bridge offers a historic masonry fort with a nice overlook. Free to visit.

If you are planning to visit Staten Island with a purpose of finding great historical artifacts, don't. It is a great place for a picture opportunity. View of VNB from here is awesome.

A lot of people take the Staten Island ferry from Manhattan and then just turn right back around. It was worthwhile to take this side trip to Fort Wadsworth before returning to Manhattan. Amazing place, great place to satisfy that photograph in you. make sure you take one of the different tours with park rangers. The best one is the one inside the forth at night with lanterns you can find the schedule on their Web site and also don't forget to visit forth Tompkins that's just under the bridge.

The sights at the old fort are quite nice, but it's when you look out over the Narrows and see the different views of the Verrazano Bridge, Brooklyn and the City that you realize this is truly a special place to visit
