Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Every time a new visitor to Staten Island asks me where to go I take them 2 minutes from my home and show them this astonishing view. Afterwards I am thier guide for life in SI. It is an amazing place and we can spend an entire day exploring the grounds and history of this historic hidden gem. When we're done here we can always explore the rest of Gateway National Recreation Area. Plug it in to your Google search. Brooklyn. Staten Island. Queens. New Jersey. Imagine, a National Recreation Area that spans 3 boroughs and 2 states! Move on to Miller Field. Look across the water to Sandy Hook, New Jersey. Yea yea, I know, New JERSEY. But just try a ferry ride from a port to Manhattan and see the views and excitement as you approach Gotham.

There is a lot to see and do here depending upon your desires. By checking their website you will find guided tours of the battery and forts that still sit on the property. There are campsites that you can get permits for if you choose to stay for an extended period of time. This facility is home to and shared by the United States Coast Guard, the United States Army, the United States Navy, the National Park Service and some other federal agencies. It is open to the public during daylight hours. It is nice for a walk or bike ride. You can enter from Bay Street or McLean Avenue. The biking and walking trails have some terrain depending upon which sights you may want to see. There is a spectacular view of New York Harbor, the NYC Skyline, the Narrows and the Verrazano Narrow Bridge available. The fort is home to white tail deer and has goats that visit in the summertime. If you walk downhill towards the water there is access to the beach and a nice path that leads off the base and to the South Beach Boardwalk. Some parts of the base are off limits so please respect the signage and not disturb the different government branch police units. Enjoy!

All the parks in Staten Island are a must see. They are clean, well kept, and a true beauty in NYC. Take a see for yourself!

Fine example of early post civil war fortress construction. It is part of the system built to protect NY Harbor. NPS is doing a fine job of keeping the place open. Also visit Castle Clinton in Manhattan and Governors Island

Like many other places on this island, this park is dumpy and neglected. Someone needs to attend to it, especially the memorial that is full of weeds. A new building is under construction, but for the moment the place is a mess. Where did the money go from Hurricane Sandy?

Ft Wadsworth is a Staten Island NYC highlight

All of Ft. Wadsworth is worth seeing, and walking around in to find out about it's rich history.

A great stop, if understated. There's a visitor center but not a "full" visitor center - they have passport stamps, the Junior Ranger badges (but not the books) and some exhibits, including an exhibit on the fort and the proposed American Indian National Memorial - but there could be so much more that could be done at the VC, such an an overview movie. Clean bathrooms, informative Rangers.

We were there recently to see a play, which was held in the courtyard of the fort. Gorgeous views, nice sitting area, and the goats were around eating up the weeds. Fun!

Nice area for a stroll. Some nice history. The fort is very cool if you catch it open, but do not look for to much museum quality artifacts.
They could really make this a tourist attraction with a bit of effort.
