Fun for Children of All Ages
The Strong National Museum of Play is a fun place for children of all ages. There are so many interesting things to see and interactive areas for children throughout the beautiful museum. There are displays of toys ranging from the 1800s to the present day. It was like taking a step back in time and fun to see the toys that were popular when we were children as well as those that our own children played with. The Butterfly Garden was a bonus with lovely plants and the most beautiful butterflies. There is also a very nice gift shop, areas to get something to eat, and the cleanest restrooms!

    So much to see.
In the last year the Strong Museum of Play has doubled in size. There is so much to see and do. It’s fun whether you bring children or just have adults in your party. Adults will enjoy seeing the toys and games of their childhood. My sister in law really loved the Barbie exhibit because she had the very first one and several thereafter. There are activities that kids will enjoy. I’m not sure what they call it but I can it a ropes course. They also have a gaming section where you can play video games. I was impressed by the exhibit that showed the development of a video game from design idea to finished product. My very favorite section is the Toy Hall of Fame. Each year new toys are inducted. It’s an interesting collection of toys and games. There’s also a butterfly garden to explore. Overall, you should spend an entire day at the Strong Museum.

A place for the entire family to Play!
We have a family of 5 with a spread of 6 years from our oldest to youngest. All of our kids (pre teen to 6 year old) had a great time at "The Strong" as did my wife and I. At a normal museum you spend your time walking from exhibit to exhibit reading and looking at old stuff. At the Strong you spend most if not all if your time playing and interacting with the exhibits. If you are only going for a one day visit, make sure to plan your day, as we took 2 days and did not see 7 of the exhibits after 11 hours and will be going back to check out what we missed.

Second visit and still love it!
This is our second visit to the Museum, with our grandson, and still think it’s a first rate facility. Easy to find, close parking in the garage, and reasonable pricing. Our 3 year old grandson absolutely loves this place. So much to see and do you won’t be disappointed.

    You MUST check this out!
This place was AMAZING! Something for everyone, we thought we would go for a couple hours but we were there all day, from opening time to mid afternoon and would’ve stayed longer if we didn’t need to get back to our hotel. My favorites were the outdoor board game park, the pinball room and the butterfly garden, and that was for me. My kids (5 and 7) had a BLAST!

    Definitely worth the trip!
Excellent, fun museum for all ages. I went with my daughter and 3 grandkids, ages 2 to 8. Everyone had a wonderful time. We only wished we had more time, because there was so much to do that we didn't even see it all. You could easily spend 8 hours here and not run out of things to do.

    Being a Child
The Strong Museum of Play is a remarkable collection of a woman who collected wonderful toys and memorabilia throughout her life. It's definitely a place for children of all ages. I only saw the first floor on this visit. As you enter the museum three aquariums with live fish greet the visitors. I believe the majority of the exhibits are on this floor. Several food options are available, including the Puppy Café which, at the end of the long visit, was a welcome area for an Iced Coffee and a Muffin. The espresso machine was not working. That was my original choice, an espresso. It has on the back wall a map of the world. The butterfly garden and outside garden are also on this level of the museum. I had a great time.

    Fun for all ages!
My boys (ages 13 & 11) and I spent half a day here. Very nostalgic for me to see so many things I grew up with. For them, it was less nostalgia and more current fun. Parts of the museum they totally wanted to skip over due to their age, and other parts (like video games and ropes course) they loved. We were staying at the hotel across the road so I can't speak to parking. We did eat at the very first cafe you see when enter. I'd maybe try a different one next time as we really weren't impressed/happy with the food there. Overall though, would totally recommend a visit to this museum!

This museum can make a pessimistic 14 year old reawaken her inner child. I would know, I am that 14 year old. There is so much to do here even with Covid. There is a huge superhero exhibit that both my brothers and I loved. The mini Wegmans there is one of our favorite things. And that butterfly garden is beautiful with turtles and button quails and even a toucan. And during happy hour my brothers and I will always stop by bill grays for half price milkshakes. There is a monthly exhibit that always changes when I last went it was dragons and before that it was baseball. There are vintage toys that many adults will remember. And that sesame street area is adorable, your kids can stop by and say hi to all their favorite characters even Elmo's goldfish Dorothy. Admission is free for anyone 2 and under but over that it's 15 dollars per person so I highly advise getting a membership. It is extra for the butterfly garden no matter what though and arcade games, the train ride, and carousel are all extra as well. Come one and all to the museum that is truly the crown jewel of Rochester.

The kids enjoyed the museum but didn’t think that it was great value with so many restrictions in place. With a number of exhibits closed the museum is still charging extra for things like the train ride.

Also paying full price for very young children is poor. Under 5s should be discounted to some extent.

We are a family of four with kids in their 20’s. We had such a great time! We spent most of our time upstairs in the HOF section rather than playing in the children’s museum part, although we didn’t skip it completely because it looked so fantastic. Someday I’ll have to return someday with young children to play.
The toy history was fascinating with an incredible collection.
The only disappointment was the inexcusably expensive gift shop. The selection was small but it ultimately didn’t matter since it was so overpriced. I generally like to support museums by shopping in their stores but I left empty handed, even though I was shopping for a child as well as a souvenir for me (sorry, $11 or $12 is too much for a refrigerator magnet). A mother of young children next to me wanted to buy a Trivial Pursuit refill pack. While willing to pay a certain premium, $65 is just insulting when it’s $18 on Amazon. I don’t think I saw a single purchaser, just browsers.

We had a hard time finding the entrance to the parking lot. There were no signs indicating where to turn in. You needed to prepay to get the reduced rate for parking, there was only one kiosk and the line was long a ppl had trouble getting the reader to read your museum “ticket” and ppl got confused.
Being back the old food court, this one is a joke. The seating area was small and claustrophobic with no idea where to go get your food when ready, not really a food court, you oder off a small menu and then pick up your food from a half opened door. It felt like eating. In a really sad cafeteria. Never again.

Visited with family and teens. We have been to many children's museums when the kids were younger but the website here listed the toy museum and pinball area prominently on the website. We were disappointed to learn that you had to pay for the pinball on top of the admission price. It was nominal but wasn't clear on the website. The toy museum portions are mixed throughout the other exhibits and at times it felt like we were in the way of the younger kids activities. So, I would say if you are a family with younger kids, go for it, you will have a blast. If you are more interested in the museum part, or other temporary exhibit, just be sure you know this is a kids play place above all else.

This museum was amazing!! I went with my husband and 11 year old son. If you’re into nostalgia and pop culture, this is the place for you!! The collection is amazing!! The video game area of the museum is a lot of fun and many opportunities to play games. We went on a Tuesday around noon and the upper floor where the video games and collectibles was not that crowded. There is a section with all the old school 80’s video games and you can play them for a token or one quarter.

The lower level has an amazing interactive play section for younger children. So many cool things to do. This was a lot more crowded than the museum upper level. There is also a cafeteria and a cool diner you can eat in or I saw many people with packed lunches from home. The gift shop is small, but had some cute things.

I would definitely go here again and check told say, it’s not just for families! N

The museum is large and much to do for an older child
For a 2 year old there are certainly things age appropriate for them, but not worth charging an adult admission fee, The museum should offer a discounted rate for much younger children.
The Seneca Park Zoo even offers FREE admission to children 2 and under and discounted tickets for 11 and under.
A family of 4 that includes twins age 2 is expected to pay $100.00 for a couple of hours? Certainly toddlers are not going to be spending the day in any museum.

I find it very disappointing that your low ropes course is for under 48”, yet when you denied my son, you would not let him stand inside the course with me so his younger brother could do it. You would not let him stand outside the fence because you said he would be unaccompanied which is against the museum policy. I understand this policy, but he would be so close to me, it seemed a little ridiculous. Then the worst part was when you said he could not try the high ropes course because “he would be in the way” if he wasn’t going to do the whole thing. This is not family-friendly at all nor friendly to people with disabilities. Basically if you are a single mom your kids might never be able to do this. If you have a child like mine who has developmental coordination disorder, they can’t do the low ropes course, but they can’t stand and watch a sibling, but they can’t try the high ropes course. You could make a bench inside the low ropes course. There are a lot of solutions to this. I’m not a single parent but I really feel for anyone with more than one child dealing with this or older kids with disabilities who aren’t allowed to participate. I was surprised you wouldn’t let me pay for him to try the high ropes course because that was not on the sign, that your child has to be able to complete it. I don’t know how you could even enforce that.

Let your inner child loose, and play till your hearts content at the Strong Museum of play in Rochester NY.
The Strong is dedicated to the art & joy of play. Everything you can think of related to toys, games, playthings, books, and childhood memories is here for you to enjoy. They have exhibits from the origin of toys, right up to the most recent toys.
You will enjoy the trip down memory lane as you go through the many displays and interactive exhibits featuring the toys and toy brands you love.
The Hall of fame features the best toys throughout history. Every year new toys are inducted and places on their hall of fame.
There is a great video game section where you can enjoy playing all the video arcade games you have grown up with.
Over the last few years they have renovated and expanded – and the new additions include a “level Up” interactive digital game world, “High Score” the video game history museum, and the Hasbro Game Park – which features giant versions of classic Hasbro games – Simon, Monopoly, candyland, Jenga, etc.
The Museum is huge, and so much fun.
The photo opportunities, the interactive exhibits, the giant characters, and the various play structures, will keep you busy for hours.

Tips for visitors:
There is so much to see and do here, you will want to plan several hours to spend here.
There is a carrousel in the main entrance – and a diner to grab something to eat.
There is plenty of parking in their parking garage.
The museum is a big attraction for families with children, and on weekends and holidays – it will be packed with children running around. We visited on a Saturday and it was extremely busy. The last time we visited a few years ago – was a weekday afternoon – and it was not too bad.
The Hasbro Game Park will be closed on Rainy days (esp if lightning) They take extra caution.
Do not go late in the day – because it will take you longer to get through everything than you might think, and you wont want to miss out on things.

Love this place! They were constantly cleaning every surface, I was so impressed and felt so safe. They limit capacity due to covid so buy your tickets in advance. My husband lived this place more than my kids. We took a quick trip to Corning and decided to add this to the list while we were there. It's a bit of hike, if I recall 90 minutes from Corning but so worth it. We have 4 kids ranging from 5 to 14 and they all loved it. We could have stayed here for a few hours . I am sure if it is more fun when everything is open. It is a must see and the staff works extremely hard at sanitizing. We will definitely come back!
