Although I've been to Pittsford several times before, I've never gone on the Sam Patch Erie Canal tour. But on a visit in August my daughter and I finally the opportunity. We went along with another daughter, her husband, and three children. It was a lot of fun! Upon boarding the boat, we found seats at some of the tables... More

We like to take out of town guests on the Sam Patch. It is a good way to showcase our area. They do a wonderful job giving us a learning experience while enjoying a nice peaceful ride on the canal. The Fall foliage added to the ambiance.

We had initially hoped to take a canal tour with another company- on a much larger boat. But they weren't running at the time we had available for a tour. So we found Sam Patch online, used our phones to reserve our tickets for tour a few hours later, and picked up our tickets when we arrived for our tour.... More

The Sam Patch is a great way to spend an afternoon checking our the Erie Canal. Although I was solo on my trip, there were families with young children and everyone enjoyed the journey. Would highly recommend

The Sam Patch cruise was a very nice ride. We learned a bit about the history of the canal, went through lock #32 where we were raised 25 feet and then turned around and were lowered again. The cruise lasted 1.5 hours...I wish that they had played Low Bridge in addition to telling the history.

What a great, easy way to relax and enjoy the water as well as learn some interesting history. We also had some food and, while a bit basic, was enjoyable. The captain and mates were very pleasant and really made an effort to make the 1.5 hour trip enjoyable. All ages will really like it, rain or shine.

This not for profit is doing right.. they offer an educational fun tour which lasts about 1.5 and costs $15? for adults. They sell beer, wine and sodas (snacks too) and you get a pleasant tour of a real historical landmark. The Captain and 1st Mate are willing to answer questions directly when not giving their spiele.

Group of six of us went on the wine cruise. Nice evening, pretty good wine, and good plate of cheese and salami. It was SO hot though and tables are so close together. Sam Patch could make a simple improvement by just adding small fans to circulate the air. Note: if you are plus size, the seats are so tightly... More

Thank you for the review. Sorry it was so hot for your cruise. Under normal conditions, the boat temperature is quite comfortable, but this summer has been very warm. We are investigating wiring modifications to allow us to install fans to make our passengers more comfortable. More

It is a 90 minute tour. Basically the boat goes to the lock, waits as it fills, then goes out amber turns around. You re-enter the lock, it drains and you go back They explain the history and how it works which I found interesting. My 16 year old was very bored. Not much air movement in the boat, it... More
