The donkey ride exceeded our expectations. We really enjoyed the ride and I would definitely advise to either get the cable car or ride a donkey. Don’t walk those stairs as you won’t be able to enjoy it because of the donkeys. The stairs are...More

Our cruise ship anchored in the caldera along with 4 other ships. Our tender dropped us off and we used the Cable Car to ascend to Fira. We spent a wonderful day on Santorini enjoying the wine and the Black Sand beach. The problem arises...More

We had done our research and were expecting the steps to be a horribly smelly climb, but nothing quite prepares you for the full olfactory experience. The stairway is beautiful and offers amazing views of the caldera and scenery, but the donkeys ruin it. The...More

Multiple news articles have been recently published about this exact issue. The donkeys' backs are literally breaking from out of shape, overweight tourists who want an "experience" at the expense of a poorly treated, overworked, underfed, animal. I saw one of the donkeys pleading with...More

The title of my review is meant to be taken both literally and figuratively! We walked from the top to the bottom after not wanting to wait in a massive line for the cable car. Yes there is donkey poop but it's not covering every...More

Wasn’t looking forward to the stairs after the comments online. My husband and I walked the stairs both up and down. We are in our late 60s and relatively fit. The scariest part was being passed by the donkeys as they didn’t leave a lot...More

Please don't do this, the guys that run the donkeys think that it's great fun to scare the tourists by driving the donkeys as close to you as possible. My daughter and I came across a girl who was petrified and in tears, so we...More

It is best to walk or take the cable car as the donkeys are clearly not treated well and are made to carry too much weight.

You’ve got a choice...walk the stairs, ride a mule or take the cable car? We went with the healthy choice up the stairs-it’s a good walk, with great views. At the top, there’s the prettiest village, with lots of shops and places to eat/drink. On...More

Santorini is mesmerizing and a bucket list item for many. From the winery tours and the sunsets to walking the streets of Oia and enjoying the food, this Greek gem is truly one of the most beautiful places on earth. BUT, the one thing that...More

Fira and Firastefanos are pretty much the same. Imerovigli is the next town on the way to Oia.

No, they are not included in our day tour, but I didn't see a healthy donkey that could have held my 205 # husband. They all looked malnourished and were beaten up the steps, by a gruff man with a long stick. We didn't... More
