Rude service
Oct. 2016
We came in and looked around first at the upstairs and then main floor of this lovely shop. In the centre of the main floor room was a table with two half-drunk bottles of Calvados with a basket of glasses, and a few glasses outside the basket on the table. We picked up the bottles to look at them but did not open them. The store manager (we think?) was at the cash, helping someone; I waited to get her attention and then asked her in French (we are Canadian) if we could taste the Calvados. Her reaction was so strong – in front of another customer, to boot – that we thought we had done something to offend her: ‘No, absolutely not, it's not possible… you can’t just help yourself… it's not like that is a help-yourself table...’ We asked her what the glasses were there for (e.g. perhaps there was a tasting later or we could pay to taste now - whatever would have been fine). She didn’t answer that, but instead asked if we were planning to buy Calvados. We said yes, but we left – not turned on after this. We felt treated like two insolent teenagers, though we are a friendly, French-speaking interracial couple in our 40s. It's not totally atypical to get the odd arrogant display in France, but it sure ruins the moment.

Dear customer, I m sorry if you feel that my reaction was rude. I was at the cashier and busy. I proposed you the tasting after those customers. Understand that we can't let the people serve them self. I m sorry but please come any time for the tasting and I will be delighted to explain you the diversity of calvados in Normandie. Now concerning the pretending racist behavior of the owner. I just inform you that I am a member of different associations fighting racism . And just before opening this shop, 3 years ago I worked for 10 years for Doctor without borders. So I m really shocked that you passed this misunderstanding on possible racism. The best would be definitely that we meet again because we are sympathic too.

Excellent range of traditional preserves
Aug. 2016 • Solo
The area around Etretat used to be famous for its herring and other fish, caught off the shore and then processed into smoked or tinned goods for long life. This tradition has continued in Fécamp and Saint Valery en Caux. This shop has a wide stock of tinned fish and shellfish, along with ciders, cooking ingredients and books about the area. The products are not cheap, but the packaging and quality are top, making them great mementos or gifts. They regularly have a tasting table to try the goods.

Lovely shop with very friendly and helpful people. There's everything from sea salt and calvados to veggies from the sea to biscuits and breakfast treats. Spend some time in there, you'll sure find something nice.

Excellent specialities, I recommend to taste the real calvados (much better we tried in Paris) and cidre.
Excellent hospitality, and they were willing to ship our favourites some months after our visit too (as we could not live wihout that calvados) :)
