Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My sister and I decided to walk up Monte Verde as it as an overcast afternoon and we fancied a bit of a hike. We took a taxi to the foot of Monte Verde (although we originally drove past it and had to drive back when we realised we were approaching the other side of the island) and asked the driver to come back in two hours. There is no flaura and forna on Monte Verde, but there is great views of both sides of the island and the odd hawk swooping through the sky. We walked up nearly to summit but decided to not go quite to the top because we knew the driver was expecting us and it would be getting dark soon, it was a good walk with great views of Mindelo and if you want to walk to the top and back comfortably I would allow 2.5 hours. By the time we were reaching the foot of Monte Verde it was already dark and we could not see a thing, we saw a car at the end of the path but my sister was not convinced it was our taxi man and so grabbed hold of my arm acting a little scared, however it was our trusty taxi driver and he had returned to take us back to Mindelo and away from the howling dogs and pitch black. I think we paid the driver 20 Euros for the round trip. If you would like to do the walk don't be numpties like us and start before 4pm, that is unless of course you like the excitement of walking in the itch black in flip flops, which I kind of did!

The road from Mindelo to the summit of Monte Verde is cobbled and narrow, snaking its way up the mountainside. If you are afraid of heights the drop is a little intimidating especially when you see the next curve in the road ahead and the erosion that has taken place over time. However, the bumpy ride is well worth it and we were rewarded with breathtaking (and windy) views over Mindelo, the craggy volcanic peaks in the distance and the seascape in all directions. Somehow the ride back down the mountain seemed faster and safer, but then our insecurities had been left behind.

We can say Cap brown and not green. Very windy. Don't go ther by walk. You will be desapointed. Take a car, it will be enough if you want to see the wonerfull view. It's a joke, the view is terrible. You will find a lot of big antenna

You can climb this hill, but I recomend you to go by car, as it is a long climb. The ay we went it was a bit cloudy, so the views were not very clear, but you can see Mindelo and Bahia das gatass from the top

It is a brilliant place to go but only at sunny weather, best time to try is around 2 pm. Do not be afraid of the dogs, they are friendly

We had a fantastic memorable morning trip by local transport up Monte Verde, the driver was fantastic, he took us to some local beaches and markets in the town all included in the trip , once up the mountain, we took some fantastic photo's of the island, we had a fantastic time from start to finish, what made it more fun, we had an English speaking guide and separate driver,. We joint a party and hire a vehicle that carries up to 10 people, it's much cheaper that way!!!! I'd definite recommend this trip.... Thanks and enjoy if you visit.... If you found this review helpful I'd appreciate your tick, BM

Our host @Georgette provided us a 1/2 tour of the island of Sao Vincente starting with the Alto Fortim a pleasant but graffiti covered decaying old fort up high in Mindelo but then proceeding to Monte Verde a site that is actually green and provides even more spectacular panoramic views of the island. Although it was midday and hot even in November we did see some others hiking or biking up the mountain road. This might be fun earlier in the day but I would not recommend at midday. In any event as I said earlier the panoramic views were spectacular

Among the light clouds you have a fabulous view of large parts of the island.Do check before you go up whether the clouds are not too thick.

We went up with a tour (from Green Line Tours CV) - many don't go *all* the way to the top, so ask first. We loved it, but if you don't like roads with steep drop offs, this might not be for you (there are sturdy stone walls protecting the road almost all the way up). There is a stupendous birds-eye view from the top. There is a tea room under development at the (almost) top - including a fascinating cloud-catcher system to gather water to grow (not yet there) tea plants
