I’m not very steady on my feet so didn’t venture too far out. It’s like walking on lumps of coal so really uneven. However I did see lots of lemon sharks. They are totally oblivious to human legs and swam all around us. There are lots of men that try to sell beads and wooden carvings from wooden trays. I bought an overpriced wooden shark that looked nothing like the sharks I’d just seen 😂. I bartered but decided that he probably needed the escudos more than me. Cape Verde is a very poor country 😣but beautiful

In a remote Little Bay, I recommend you take Crocs or hard shoes with you as the water terrain is quite challenging with slippery rocks. Although you can hire cross here for €5. We also took hiking poles as I'm unsteady at the best of times. Lovely warm clear water, lots of Lemon shark babies swimming about, lured in with nibbles by the guides. A great experience and an amazing view of baby sharks up close.

Lovely clear waters, clean beach. Litter bins provided 6 € for rental of some crock style footwear which was good as I forgot mine! There were many small lemon sharks, would absolutely recommend. Something a bit different having swam with sharks before. Would do it again.

Great experience! Rare opportunity to see (and even touch) young sharks very close up in complete safety and comfort. There is no need for a guided tour, any taxi will take you to shark bay and the local guides will walk with you to the right place and lure the sharks.

We had bigger expectations as you would think you will find large packs. You will get there with a tour to a beach alike, a lot of buses with individuals selling a items (nothing interesting) and you can rent crocks and slippers to help you walk and navigate in the water ( I had my own ordinary flip flops ) they cost like €3 to rent and only cash. You walk around 30 to 50 meters to reach the required spot and water will reach your knees. Very rocky so if you have back , leg or knee pain please don’t go You will see one small shark every 2 to 3 minutes as individuals and that’s about it. Please go with tour and avoid going by yourself with taxi as it’s not safe and would be more expensive

Fab experience. Must take beach shoes or can't go in unless you pay to use the shoes the guys rent out there. More guys here trying to sell you the usual tourist items. Someone will guide you in and kindly hold your hand if needed as it is very very unsteady due to the rocks. It is well worth it though to experience the sharks coming so close to you and bizarrely it isn't scary at all. We tipped the guy who took us in a couple of euro as he was kind and really enthusiastically getting the sharks to come close for us to get good pictures and see lots of them.

Excellent way to spend a few hours. We booked through TUI so had coach pick up and 2 guides who were marine biologists (I think!). They were so informative and very good English. When people say it’s rocky and slippery going into the sea they really mean it!! This is not a trip for people with mobility issues unfortunately. If you don’t have crocs or hard core sandals then you can hire for 3€ when you get there. Are your guides were lovely and told us all about the sharks, and helped us over the rocks if needed. We were in the water about 45 minutes and were lucky enough to see a larger shark further out to sea (nowhere near us thankfully!) Great trip indeed 😁😁😁

Shark Bay is the destination of every island tour on Sal. Young lemon sharks are attracted by the conditions in this bay, and enterprising locals have recognized the tourism potential. You can wade about 50 m knee-deep into the water and then experience up close the young sharks, which are lured by a guide with chunks of fish. The sharks are completely harmless, adult animals do not make it into the bay. Because of the many stones in the water you have to wear swimming shoes. If you don't have any, you can rent them for a fee of two euros.

Amazing experience to be so close to these sharks. We were lucky to be a few meters away from a female giving birth. And of course, many baby sharks swimming between us, through our legs, etc. We were in doubt if we should take a taxi and figure things out ourselves or book via TUI. With two small kids we did not want to take much risk and chose the latter. And we are happy we made that choice. Not only because everything was well arranged, but mostly because of the marine biologist who was our guide, giving much interesting information and very much promoted animal care and sustainability, asking us not to take/post pictures when other guides feed the animals. This gave the whole trip a very positive vibe. However, we believe that you can perfectly fine arrange this trip yourself. Take a taxi, ask for the driver to wait for the return drive and get some guidance from one of the locals. No tickets are needed to enter the bay. Practicalities: — You need solid water shoes, to walk across the rocky and slippery surface. Can be rented onsite for 3 euro. — Nice trip for families with small kids, ours were 6 and 8 and they very much enjoyed it. — The walk through the water is no problem for anyone with regular fitness, but problematic for people who are less mobile. — The last part of the drive is off-road and there are no road signs. — There are some locals selling the usual bracelets (etc) but there are no other facilities besides at the location besides the shoe rental. — Assume there are no toilets.. ;-)
