Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I recently spent 4 days in Nxai Pan with African Bush Camps, and didn’t want to leave. The camps are mobile: they change every week or so, and the pan, (my first salt pan experience!) was lovely. Lots of open views, prides of lions, springbok, raptors, bee eaters, bat-eared foxes and jackals. Very few other people. ABC took great care of me: You gotta love the combination of canvas walls and compost toilets with a wine steward and remarkably tasty meals.
My guide, Ken, was expert at spotting all manner of wildlife, wonderful company, and intuitively knew how best to position the vehicle for optimal photo opps. I am very grateful for his good work! I was a little early for the zebra migration: they were arriving just as I had to move on, but this is a special place, well worth revisiting.

Not for everyone but Nxai Pans is a unique experience. Lots of sand and the animals are here but you have to be clever and a little lucky to find them. We did see lions twice.
The campground is good, the sites are a little close, however, the the toilets, showers and outside washing facilities are well maintained and clean.
We drove the next day to Baines Baobab campsite and it was very remote and not really anything there. It was gorgeous though but we decided to not stay the night.
The roads require a 4x4 to navigate so be prepared.

We stayed on a campsite with long drop and bucket shower over looking the baobabs, amazing sight especially at sunset, no-one else for miles and amazing skies with stars as no light pollution, a very special place. We crossed the salt pan to get to it and the scenery was wonderful, no animals but worth the effort of the long drive on sandy roads. You have to be completely self sufficient as not even water available,

Camp site Nr 2 at Baines baobabs, 2 nights.
Second visit. This place is not an easy drive, quite thick sand, need a good 4x4. We towed a trailer and got stuck, but the detour much easier than the old track.
3 campsites, about a km apart each. Nr 1 best view on boababs with spectacular sunsets. A primitive bucket shower and toilet is provided, but no water or electricity. You need to be fully self sufficient.
But the reward is absolute solitude, sunsets and stars to die for.
Will I be back, I want to keep this for myself and come back every year!

The feature is of course the trees. They are magnificent.
One must however be aware that the road to the trees is heavily sanded and only for experienced off-roaders with a 4X4

This is a review for the campsite in Baines Baobab.
We were lucky to have the campsite no1, which is exactly opposite the famous seven sisters. (There are a few more campsites, all far away and apart from each other). If you are looking for a magic place to stay for a night in the absolute wilderness and with no human presence, this is the one! Private, remote, peaceful. Magnificent sunset. Owls and jackals howling around us. This was our favourite campsite in Botswana!
This is a campsite that you need to have water, food, fire wood etc with you. There is only a long drop and a bucket shower. You need to book well ahead in advance, as there are very few places (we booked 12 months in advance and got the no1!)
A truly magnificent experience.

We camped for one night at Baines Baobabs, it was our second visit there, the first was 10 years ago, the campsite is basic but has a bucket shower system and a long drop toilet system but the location is spectacular. The road to get to Baines Baobabs was quite corrugated and has thick sand in a few places but generally not too difficult, the pans around Baines Baobabs cannot be driven after lots of rain so make sure before you go. The Baobabs themselves are spectacular and can be visited in a few hours or you can camp close by. we loved camping there as it is isolated with almost no people nearby, great for photography and star trails, In July it gets quite cold at Night so be prepared, I will definitely return one day.

The initial idea of spending a day to travel out to view a set of trees was not at all inspiring, however I soon realised it was not just about a tree or two. Firstly, they are a group of 7 baobab trees which is unusual in itself. The trees are very old and are more recently (1860's) associated with European travel within seriously remote Botswana. Secondly, the salt pans are a typical example of where much of the water travelling into Botswana ends up. Worth a visit if you are there during the drier months. Thirdly, we saw lots of animals (especially giraffes) along the way as it was April and there was still plenty of vegetation around.
We were the only visitors during the morning, which was convenient as there are no amenities, only 7 trees and a lot of salt pan! We arrived, took photos of baobabs, baobab fruit with insects, us with baobabs, ate lunch prepared by our guides and departed. An interesting place, however it is a long trip from anywhere. Make sure that whole journey and not just the destination is worth the travel.

We drove out to the 2000 year old trees that stood like sentinels in the desert. The quiet energy of this place is amazing. I was so glad we took the long drive.

Having read about these incredible trees we just had to go and see, nothing could have prepared us for the vast area these trees command. The trip from Nxai Pan camp was an experience as the 'road' is very changeable from bumpy track to sand then across the salt pan. Amazing experience, not to be missed.

How does one book a campsite at Baines Baobabs ? We are a group of 8 people with two cars
Written 23 April 2018
Baines Baobabs is a remote dry pan with unique and untouched nature. There are no campsites in the vicinity - there is no water supply, drainage facilities or services. In my opinion it is not a place to stay for more that a few hours during which time you can soak up the natural beauty, observe Oryx and admire the trees for which the area is famous. I would highly recommend that you do some research and book a stay at an established safari camp nearby and make a day excursion.
