Magnificent panorama

This hike is free and accessible to children.

The Marvellous Rock Platform is located above the town of Cilaos. First a walk or a drive of a few kilometres, and then we stop at a car park. From there you walk a little and climb a few steps, and then from the belvedere you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Cilaos circus, the town and the ramparts.

It is then possible to follow a botanical path.

There are picnic areas.

We will come back to La Roche Merveilleuse for a good time of relaxation.

Good viewpoint

May 2022

La Roche Merveileuse provides a good viewpoint of the Cilaos cirque, one of the three amazing cirques on Reunion. It is signposted.

There is a winding road into the cirque and a small car park underneath the rock. A short flight of steps takes you to the viewpoint. The Cilaos cirque is relatively flat when compared to the other two. You won't need many minutes on the rock.

Good hike from Cilaos or you can drive or take a bus

We walked there, it as a nice walk not too hard. Though it is not a loop but same way coming back. The view from there is beautiful but once again, go there EARLY

Excellent views

Having made the effort to get up to Cilaos we didn’t mind making the extra effort to get to La Roche Merveilleuse just to get that extra special view. Yes it was worth it but I probably wouldn’t do it again. The views all around the area are spectacular anyway.

Worth the walk

The hike to La Roche Merveilleuse is only 60 minutes from Cilaod but it does provide a decent increase in elevation and the views back over the Cirque de Cilaos is incredible. Much easier on the way down as well so make sure you take the time to visit.

Amazing view

Since we were only staying one night in Cilaos we decided to atleast drive the short route to the parking area right below the viewpoint to take a lookg around in the morning. And it is worth it. You get a good view of Cilaos with a 360 degree view of the mountains surrounding it. The viewpoint itself has some information tables telling you the story of Cilaos - but only in french. Worth a visit.

Very Outstanding viewpoint on the Cilaos Village. Very peaceful and calm. The legend is also not an ordinary one, was wondering if this really did work at that time. And if natives still practice it!!!

A must if you are visiting cilaos

The view from here is incredible, and it is so easily accessible from cilaos by car or on foot that la Roche Merveilleuse is a must - see in Cilaos
