This is one of the key sites to visit on Mozambique Island and can be combined (ticket wise with the Governor's Palace Museum). The fort's history is long and fascinating which we recommend you invest some time in exploring before you head over. The fort...More

This fort was as many other medieval and colonial forts a place of defence & also later a place from where slaves were either detained or as place of final departure for many poor souls. Also a place which ships the ingenious engineering skills of...More

When we visited the fort it was a little bit over grown with weeds and there was rubbish about. For a place that charges admission fees it should be at a better standard.

The place is very interesting...Experience spoiled as the visit is not guided. You pay for the entry at the Governor's Palace and are lead to explore the Fort on your own.

Expansive structure that is a great relic of Portuguese rule. We had a guide from Ilha Blue who filled in all the facts. I recommend a guide or you have to fill in the blanks on your own. Good views from the top!

Imagine having an entire fort to yourself - scrambling up the stairs, hiding in rooms that seem to have been vacant for years, peering over the walls to the water crashing on the rocks below. You can't help but feel like an adventurer or kid...More

A fantastic piece of history that you can't miss if you visit the island! It is a majestic structure, so it is a shame to see it as a shell of its past glory. We hired a guide from the museum down the road, who...More
