We found Lalibela a unique place in Africa with a very interesting history. The visit of 11 churches and the Asheton Mariyam monastery, spread over 3 mornings, was well guided by Ermiyas. We got all the stories and background of the site. We could take...More

I highly recommend visiting Lalibela to see the rock churches. It was amazing to see these monolithic rock churches dating back to the 12th and 13th century. If you can I recommend a two day stay in Lalibella as one day would be too short....More

I've written my review of this attraction under Churches of Lalibela, but wanted to point out that in addition to the churches, Lalibela as a town is remarkable in itself, perched high on a mountain ridge with amazing views to further high mountain ranges and...More

Please visit, a must visit place. Great history and an attempt by King Lalibella to have a second Jerusalem in ET for those who cannot travel to Palestine/Israel to visit the holy place. We happened to be there 2 days before the Ethiopia Christmas on...More

Especially compared to the cost of entrance and the cost of private book-ahead guides, getting a guide here is worth it. My guide charged 350 birr per day but constantly tried to upsell me on more activities. I agreed to go to yimrehane christos monastery,...More

We spent St Michael's day in Lalibela, and our hotel, the Tukul Lodge, recommended Ermiyas Workye as a guide. He gave us an excellent tour and had very good English. He brought us right to the center of all the celebrations. His email is ermiyas.workye@facebook.com,...More

Hi My boyfriend and I are planning to visit Ethiopia in December. We plan to fly from Addis Ababa to Lalibela around the 13/14th December and then after head onto bahir dar and gondar. We plan to book a flight within Addis for Lalibela, when we arrive in Lalibela will it be easy to find somewhere to stay? or should we book ahead? Any recommendations? what is Lalibela like around christmas? Does anybody have any advice on where to stay for christmas? and then for new years? Also any general advice on good routes round would be great! Afterwards we are planning to head to explore south ethiopia and then onto kenya. Thanks :)
