Mildly interesting. We were given an English leaflet to take round but all the information panels and guided tour are only in French. I would have liked it more if they furnished a couple of workers/foreman’s cottages. We were here less than an hour and would have got more out of it maybe if we could have done the tour

Interesting buldings and exhibits in a marvellously peaceful location. Not over-commercialised, and good value

Lovely afternoon wandering in & out of the buildings. Information booklet provided in English which was very informative. Dogs allowed. Wheelchair access was a bit tricky in places as the paths are gravel which made pushing hard occasionally but if you have a little mobility this won't be a problem. Staff are friendly & helpful. We combined it with a visit to Lac de Guerledan

I visited here with my wife on a beautiful sunny Saturday afternoon and were met in the visitor centre by a charming, friendly and attractive young lady who made us feel very welcome. She provided us with a visitors guide in English which was well translated and extremely useful if your French is a bit rusty like ours. She recommended that we watch the video before our tour and pre-warned us that the soundtrack was in French only, but that didn't really detract from the overall portrayal. As you make your way around the site it really does give you an insight into industrial life in rural France in the mid 18th century. Surprising also of the benevolence of the owners/employers towards their staff. We found it amazing that the school only closed around 1970 despite the foundry having closed down many years previously! If any comments could be made for improvements it would that it might be good if some of the displays could have multi-lingual information cards attached. We thoroughly recommend visiting here to see just what life was like over 2 centuries ago. Small children might struggle to find enough to occupy them as there is a total lack of interactive displays which the world seems to hinge on these days.

This is an intriguing and interesting place, in the middle of a very nice forest. Seeing the place out of activity nowadays, it can be hard to figure how relevant it was for the local economy and generations of workers and families living here. But the explanations provided help to imagine at least a little. The place used to work like a complete social and economic unit, almost an authartic organization. Beautifully organized in several buildings, the calm you perceive today has little to do with the continuous activity that ran the place for centuries. You leave the place knowing some more things about history and economics, and the melancholy of the vision of rise and decadence. Really nice visit. Thanks!
