We decided to see the best falls even if water low. Thought we would be disappointed but quite the opposite. Enough water to make noise and rock formations were clear and easy to see. Walk down a long ways and let your imagination view thousands...More

It's an amazing place with gorgeous nature. The Gorge Trail is a bit exhausting and be prepared to climb a lot. Breathtaking views of the waterfalls all the way to the top. At the end of the trail you can continue to the Rim trail...More

Great place to hike just outside Ithaca. Easy to reach with the TCAT buses. Lots of trails. Fall is the best time to be there, but spring and summer are beautiful too.

This beautiful waterfall is just at the end of the business section clustered along Rte 13 in Ithaca. It is a short tun off the rode and easily accessible. You don't need to hike to see it but there are nice hiking trails all along...More

We walked around Treman Lake and then part way down the road towards the gorge. It was a beautiful day, not many people out and lovely views.

Like many of the falls in the area this is unique and beautiful. The area surrounding the falls are peaceful and very photographic. Bring a camera and shoot the many scenes of nature at your disposal.

We were told by the gate attendant that it was better to take the Rim Trail up and the Gorge Trail down as it was a better experience overall. He was so right! The Rim Trail was 600 feet up, pretty strenuous for those out...More

After traveling to many of the falls in Ithaca, Buttermilk Falls have to be my favorite. The location is central to a lot of the other waterfall trails in the Ithaca area. I recommend traveling the short distance to Robert Treman State Park for a...More

Hiked the Rim and Gorge trails over Labor Day weekend and just as beautiful as I remember 30 years ago. Beautiful falls and Park. Well worth the trip.

Watkins Glen was on our list but was closed at the time for trail renovation so can't say. Buttermilk was beautiful but I've been told the water flow is much less later in the summer.

I wouldn't recommend hiking the Buttermilk Trail for a 5 year old. The steps that run along the falls at the lower Buttermilk are steep, and there is no railing. There are other parks close by where a 5 year old can hike... More

If they are reasonably fit you can park at the lower level and hike to the upper, then go around the lake and back. With stops and not pushing it it'll be a good two hours. Bathrooms and water are at the mid point.
