Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

On a Saturday night all the families are out in the city center so it was very busy at all the restaurants. This is a big pedestrian main square with colonial architecture.
We saw a large group of native Aztec dancers parade past us. Just did not have enough time here to really grasp all the history connected to this place. We had more time in Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende then here.

All Mexican cities have their typical main square called Zocalo; but the peculiarity of Querretaro is that there are 4 of them just a few steps away from each other. And plaza de armas is just one of them. The difference is that this place is completely surrounded by average restaurants, with waiters almost grabbing your arm to convince you to sit down and eat or drink something. Although Queretaro is one of the best and cheapest places to eat in Mexico, I suggest you keep walking until you reach Plaza de la Independencia qhere you'll find 2 of the best restaurants in all of Mexico.

I have family that lives here, whenever we need a place to gather or unwind in this would be the place.

Let me paint a picture for you, the centerpiece of the plaza is a fountain, I honestly forgot the name of the person on top so I called it the Dog Fountain because of the 4 dogs around the perimeter. There are benches and stone walls for sitting everywhere, there's the governors building which you can walk around free of charge and learn some of the history that went down inside the walls. On the opposite end of the square are some nice Italian/Mexican restaurants (slightly pricier than average) with live music almost everyday, fantastic musicians.

I've seen live concerts held here, political group gatherings, World Cup viewing parties, Yoga classes, you name it, this place is the nexus for anything cultural.

You're probably asking me "what about the food? or the bathrooms?!?" Glad you asked. Plenty of hidden gem of restaurants through the side roads, I can't recommend a specific one but I can tell you if you whatever you find you will love it. And the bathrooms are located one block over underground in a parking garage, relatively clean and they charge 5 pesos to use it.

Oh and there's an awesome churro shop nearby. That's important to note.

Come, relax and people watch, soak in the culture, you won't regret it.

This city spends a lot of time decorating and you find lots of different ones all over the city. But in the park they are huge! Just a FUN place to hang out and people watch for sure.

There are three restaurants on the plaza where you can have a drink and watch plaza life, two of them play music (not at the same time) and one belongs to a good hotel - the two with music are better than the hotel restaurant.

The plaza has a good nativity for Christmas and displays for the day of the dead.

Plenty to see, the buildings are beautiful, and the churches are something you must walk in and see. There is one almost on every corner. I felt safe the whole time, and lots of great street vendors.

Over the course of the month that we were here, this public square which contains the famous "dog" fountain was an always exciting and bustling center of activity. The most outstanding feature are the beautifully trimmed Ficus trees that stand to attention while providing luxuriant shade to all visitors.
