This is a beautiful green area on fire island between the bay and the ocean. It has a few trails you can take on your own or join a guided tour with ranger. It's peaceful and you can run into wildlife--deer, fox, squirrels and Mosquitos. Bring some bug spray.

A small hidden forest on Fire Island lets you experience something completely unforgettable. You take a ferry here from Sayville and that is where the adventure begins. Docking in Sailors Haven you can head to a visitors center which gives you plenty of information about the forest. Although the area is small for hiking (about 1.5 miles) it is an... More

The sunken forest is best approached via the hallways of always. We went on a sunny day, and immediately left our bodies behind to gambol with the local spirits there. The runes on the trees were somewhat difficult to decipher, but in the end, we appreciated the challenge. There was a lot of wildlife there, although some was reluctant to... More

Located at Sailor's Haven this is a nice, short (about 1.5 miles) trail through several unique ecosystems. The entire trail has a very nicely maintained boardwalk. We did this hike on a hot August afternoon. There were TONS of mosquitoes. Wish we had been prepared with bug repellent. There is a nice deck overlooking the Great South Bay, and another... More

Loved this quiet walk through the forest. The walk way was safe and well marked. Public showers and bathroom with snack bar and gift shop. We swam In the ocean. The beach was empty which was nice but no life guards if you need them.

Nice easy walk. The area was mostly shaded and had some great views. The walk from the boardwalk to beach was short but sand was ridiculously hot as expected on a 90 degree day .

A beautiful park that is easy to walk. All walking is done on boardwalk, so great for strollers and folks with some movement limitations. The setting is beautiful and the mix of beach, marsh and forest is unique. Be sure to take one of the Ranger led tours, very informative and 100% free. Be warned, you will need bug spray... More

Always a highlight of the summer, any walk through this beautiful forest is special. Please-- if you do this walk, do not litter. If you can bring something in to a national park, you can carry it back out.

This was a unique place - to go to a beach where you can only go by boat - makes for a beach that is pristine and crowd free. The forest was shaded and had a boardwalk. It was a nice walk- leading Us To the dunes. The. To the ocean A day with a score of 10 out of... More
