Sailors Haven is a quiet natural piece of heaven on Fire Island. Its National Seashore is wild and uncrowded. The sunken forest is an interesting diversion. You can walk on your own or take a guided tour with a park ranger. The marina is small, and ferry traffic is limited. Its the perfect spot to get away.

Mostly accessible via the Sayville ferries, Sailor's Haven is a nice, less crowded Ocean beach alternative to Smith's Point, Robert Moses or Jones Beach. We took the first ferry in the morning and were the first people on the beach. Lifegaurds came about an hour later. The Sunken Forest is a nice hike at this location also (but pack some... More

Small marina that is quiet in the evening. Short walking distance to beach/ocean, great little snack bar, ice cream and mini-mart. Friendly staff and a nice little National Park Service station too!

I have loved Sailor's Haven for over 30 years now. This National Seashore destination has a beautiful walk through the sunken forest of Fire Island. The beach is truly gorgeous. I love that this wonderful place has been left natural, unlike the small towns that also are a part of Fire Island.

One must see this primoral Forest tucked in the heart of Fire Island. As you stroll the 2 mile Boardwalk ste a few feet above the floor of the forest, you will think you've stepped back in time to when the earth was new. Bring a suit and hit the beach afterward

Great beach. Very clean water. Good for kids. Best place for family on Fire Island. Be ware of the bugs, sunken forest has lots of them! Very short walk from dock to the beach. Not much to offer at the food shack though. They run out of burgers quickly.

I’m thankful for Sailors’ Haven. Saying goodbye is tough, and as I go, I’m taking a couple important thoughts with me. I’ve learned and seen a lot here, and can’t afford to let myself forget anything. My energy, happiness, and overall well-being has been at an all time high while exploring Fire Island, and I’m determined to not let it... More

Take the ferry from Sayville or go by your own boat (like I do) to visit this site. The beach is wide and the waves are fun. A free walking tour of the Sunken Forest is very interesting, It has Poison Ivy plants that look like trees and many other plant/tree species with their tops trimmed by the winds coming... More

This part of fire island is beautiful. The beach is clean, the sand it hot (of course). It is quiet and relaxing and it is not crowded like other beaches in New York are. Great place for a little mini family vacation for a few hours.

I caught the ferry from Sayville and my first stop was the National Park Service Visitor Center. The park rangers were lovely - especially the one who helped me with the malfunctioning bottle of bug spray. I was surprised that the Visitors Center itself wasn't a bit better equipped. I think those lovely Rangers deserve a better infrastructure. There was... More
