The American Airpower Museum is Non-Profit 501C3 Aviation Museum and State Chartered Educational Foundation. A unique Museum in that many of the historic Aircraft are operational and fly regularly during the spring and summer months. The Museum is located at historic Republic Airport in Farmingdale NY. The Airport established back in the 1920s by Fairchild and Grumman Aviation. Eventually the home of Seversky Aviation during the 1930s it would evolve into Republic Aviation in 1939. In 1941 Republic produced the P-47 Thunderbolt which would go on to be the most mass produced fighter of WWII with over 15,000 built. Republic would go on to build the F-84, F-105, and A-10 Fighter Aircraft all right here in Long Island NY. Today the American Airpower Museum calls one of the last three surviving Republic Hangars home.

Best on the weekend of the Jones Beach Air Show. It can get a little crowded, but you'll see the old "war birds" and be able to view some of the planes take off and land for the show. Some years you'll get lucky and catch a fly by, by one of the elite teams.

Fantastic World War Two centered museum. There are plenty of vintage, and newer, planes on display. The exhibits are informative and well laid out giving the visitor a great insight into Long Islands contributions to the war effort. The Museum is based in and old hanger from Republic Aviation where over 9,000 P-47 Thunderbolts were built. DON'T miss the flight... More

This was a great way to spend a few hours with the family. Do much history shared with us. Tour guides are not only very knowledgeable but some have personal experience using the aircraft. Definitely worth while.

It's amazing seeing what the brave WW2 men flew into battle in to preserve our freedom. You see these incredible flying machines in films but never realize how small and vulnerable they are. It is a must see if nothing else but to understand just how brave our hero's were back then. Thank you to all our brave brave veterans.

Although I said my visit was in December the truth is , I actually go several times a year. Whether you go on just a normal visiting day or go for one of their special weekends when their amazing collection is augmented by visiting aircraft from other museums there is always something to see. I believe that every plane with... More

We arrived shortly after opening time on a beautiful sunny fall day. We were warmly greeted, and then Jimmy volunteered to give us a guided tour. I love this sort of stuff, so I knew I would like it, but my wife, who isn't really into this sort of thing, really enjoyed it too. There is so much to see... More

We visited the museum on a beautiful Saturday and had the pleasure of enjoying the C-47 D-Day flight experience. The museum staff was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and knowledgeable about all of the planes on display. The displays allow you to sit in some of the aircrafts and interact to a higher extent than I had anticipated. The D-Day experience was... More

Parking is easy + next to the facility. It's located in Republic Airport so you can watch private planes taking off + landing when outside. I went through the museum guided by an excellent volunteer. He had many interesting stories and facts about the airplanes and pilots making this one of my all time favorite tours. There is so much... More

The American Air Power Museum is located in one of the few remaining hangars that was once Republic Aviation/Fairchild Republic, this is where they built the P-47, F-105 and the A-10 plus assemblies for other types of Aircraft. Among the displays inside is one for the Tuskegee Airmen from WWII, for years quite a few of them that lived in... More
