My husband and I have came here several times as a day trip from NYC. We usually get off the MetroNorth train at Cold Spring. From there it's a good 20+ minute walk to the outskirts of town where you find the entrance to the Washburn Trail. This is a great way to spend a day if you're into hiking... More

A mostly undeveloped preserve of nearly 6,000 acres, the park consists of a series of separate parcels of land stretching from Annsville Creek in Peekskill, north to Dennings Point in Beacon. This is a strenuous 6 mile loop hike with great views, which would take 4 to 5 hours. Driving Directions Take the Palisades Interstate Parkway to its northern terminus... More

Hudson Highlands State Park is just an hour or so out of NYC but is a completely different world. The park is very spread out along the Hudson -we hiked in the section around a Cold Spring. The trail heads are not well marked at all but fortunately there was a trail steward by the section we were looking for... More

The Bull Hill's White trail was perfect hiking trail because there were some challenging areas and some pretty lay back path. The only disappointment was the "Green trail" that was a terrible, hazardous, and stressful experience. The Green trail is made up of 85 percent rubble rocks and you can twist your ankle or harm your knees very easily. I... More

Beautiful spot along the Hudson that is a must do for any folks that enjoy day hikes and getting out of the City. If you go to the NY State Parks website for this park, you will find in the "Maps" link with the trail maps for North and South parts of the park. Print the map and take it... More

Beautiful, challenging, dog-friendly and peaceful. Highly recommend this area for a day-trip or weekend trip from Manhattan. Trails are well-marked and not overly traversed (at least on the late fall/winter occasions when we've been). Go!

I have hiked this State Park many times. Each trail is better than the next. You can take Metro North straight from the city to the different trail starting points as well, which makes it very ideal and convenient. When taking Metro North to Beacon, you can hike the Breakneck/Casino/Old Train ruins trail. This is a more strenuous hike that... More

While the area is beautiful it is overly crowded and the trails are in poor shape. The excessive amount of people who visit here have no problem with tossing their trash wherever they want. If you are looking for a quiet hike in the woods this is not the place. Breakneck trail is extremely strenuous-do not take this trail unless... More

Had the day off work and someone recommended this park. What a find! We did the trails that led to the Cornish mansion ruins. Not a terribly hard hike but you should at least be in kind-of decent shape. Lots of photo opportunities. Even found a geocache in the ruins. What a great day. Definitely have to come back when... Lots of good reviews here so I won't pile on - needless to say, the rock scramble up Breakneck Ridge is amazing if you're in good shape. Here are two add'l things to know: 1) If you reach the fourth and highest summit, there's a large flat grassy area at the top. It can be difficult to find your way... More
