I climbed (with snowshoes) this peak several times in the winter when I was stationed at the now-defunct Griffiss AFB in the mid-70's. Each time was a challenge, since the weather invariably turned nasty the closer we'd get to the summit! Coming back down was a blast; we could glissade a fair amount of the descent. Highlights were hitting the... More

This is rated an "intermediate/advanced" level trail. For the climb up there isn't anything I'd consider technical. People not used to climbing might have a little trouble on the way down. What makes this hard is the sheer vertical climb in a relatively short distance. Much of the trail is bare bedrock or boulders on the bedrock. The trail is... More

One of the more accessible and visited of the Adirondack Peak. Although it's not one of the "High Peaks" it is a very worthwhile hike. Be prepared for lots of company on the trail though. Start out early in the morning to avoid some of the traffic

It took us about 1 1/2 hours to reach the summit. The trail was very well-maintained and not too crowded. The fire tower at the top has an amazing 360 degree view of the mountains including the high peaks. If you keep walking past the tower there is a cabin and a nice lookout point. It's a challenging but relatively... More

I wanted a great hike and I got just that. Beautiful trail and not too treacherous. Bring water and wear proper hiking shoes. I wore flip flops and that turned out to be disastrous. I know, I'm an idiot!

Came here with family (ages 6 - 60) of differing fitness levels today. We started at the bottom and climbed up. As others have said it is a lovely forest trail beside a mountain steam. Views along the way and at the top were splendid. We opted to take advantage of the free gondola ride to the bottom if you... More

My husband and I camped in the area and visited Blue Mountain for a hike. We read reviews that the hike was a must. We arrived in the morning before it got hot, which was perfect for this moderately difficult hike. The hike started out as a leisurely walk, then we had to start climbing over rocks. Soon, it got... Beautiful Adirondacks hike through a moderate trail with a few rocky slopes. A little over an hour to the top & there you have your reward... several of the chain of lakes. Stunning.

Wonderful hike in the heart of the Adirondacks. Not terribly easy or hard--pleasant challenge for 50 year-olds. Lovely views of the forest and from the top.

It was our first hike ever-I had misread the tour guide and thought it said mild. But we made it to the top and fairly quickly-probably an hour and a half up and an hour down. It's a steep and sometimes slippery slope, can be quite challenging at times. It was absolutely beautiful at the top. Breathtaking, you can see... More
