We went early during a very hot spell (35 degrees) and only did a small part of the trail to manage the energy our toddler, small baby and their grandparents. Even so we thoroughly enjoyed the walk. The trail is fairly easy, very little clambering and no real climbing. The rock art is amazing, some places exquisitely preserved. There is... More

We visited in the late afternoon to avoid the worst of the heat and were rewarded with good sightings of animals (eland, baboon and lizards) as well as the excellent paintings, clearly sign posted and well described. The travellers rest provided much needed sustenance on our return - not to be missed

This is a great walk along a river valley that takes in 9 rock art sites. You get a permit at the Travellers Rest at the entrance to the site along with an informative pamphlet and then take the walk at your own pace. The track is marked for out and return - although somehow we managed to wander off... More

Stop off at the Travellers Rest, follow the easily marked route and take in the marvel of this artwork. Stunning. Such a privilege. Then back to the cafe for a fab iced rooibos - tea and apple juice mix.

We visited the Rock Art Trail and Travellers Rest in November 2016. I was completely blown away by the quality of the rock art, having been disappointed in the past with other Rock Art (Bushman painting) sites, where you really had to use your imagination. Many of these images are very clear and the information provided in the leaflet, clearly... More

An absolute, unexpected highlight! The rock art is an undescribable treasue, the walk is an experience on its own and doable even with no touring experience. The trail is easy to follow and has a treaure-hunt feel to it.

We did this trail on a hot day. The trail itself is well marked and easy to do. All Rock art locations are well marked and explained in a small leaflet. You get this when you pay the entrance fee at Traveller's Rest. Because of the heat we returned after seeing exhibit number 6. It is well worth doing this... More

In Europe the rock art of our ancestors is generally in the form of cave paintings that are susceptible to damage by humidity from human breath and can only be preserved by denying public access. In Africa the art is under rock shelters and ledges with dry air circulating. It was therefore a thrill to be able to see the... More

The walk is not too difficult and plan on spending at last two hours to really see all of the art. Go early in the morning or late in the afternoon for the full effect. Bring a bottle of water per person.

This is a great way to see fabulous rock art. Its about a 5km round trip, beware if its hot take lots of water. You need to purchase tickets at the entrance( R40 per adult), and you are given a map with all the relevant details. We found it easy on the way there, and got lost a few times... More
