I looked at the map of Pinion Beach and assumed it was surrounded by water as the map illustrates. It wasn't...seemed the only way to get to water was to use a boat ramp in the distance but that's only for boats. Not sure how/where people go swimming etc. I was tent-camping. However it was pretty quiet with only 2... More

We stayed here for 3 days! It was a little windy but all the campgrounds that are up on a mesa seem to be that way. Had electric and water. Good place to walk our dogs. Hot showers. Great place to stay as we travel around New Mexico. Would definitely go back.

OK, we aren't fishermen so the water level wasn't an issue for us. We snagged a spot so close to the water we could hear it. Heard an elk the first couple of nights... dreamy. The bath house is cleaner than the one up the road at Heron Lake. We grudgingly left after the maximum stay off 14 days.

We really enjoyed the road around El Vado Lake. Scenery was beautiful as was seeing birds & other wildlife. Definitely need a 4wd vehicle. Road signs/directions were lacking but we used a compass and topographical map.

The lake was 50-75 feet low, we were able to get the boat in, but had to compete for space with the carp. When we purchased a... More

I would guess the lake is at 1-5% of what it used to be. There's hardly anything there now! We were going to camp there but everything is run down, and elected to keep driving instead.
