The trailhead is not easy to find. You drive past the Taos ski valley area and then you will come up to a hiker parking lot (there’s portable potty there). It’s about 10 min to the trail head and you will pass the Bavarian restaurant....More

We rarely take our two small bagels on 2 mile uphill hikes in the winter, but they absolutely loved this hike! It took us about 45 mins - 1 hour from the time we left our vehicle to reach the lake. The hike is a...More

This is a bit over two miles. The day we hiked there were some slick spots and some snow. Both made the trip more challenging but it was worth the effort. The lake is nice but the mountains surround it are magnificent.

We drove up here from town for a day of autumn hiking. The trails were very good, well marked, moderate.. Williams Lake is really pretty, and it is definitely a great destination. It was also interesting to drive through the ski resort off season.

This is a fairly easy hike if you are acclimated to the altitude of 11,000 feet. But for a special bonus hike the additional 2000 feet to Wheeler Peak. Easy camping at the lake and trout to catch for your camp fire.

Nice 2mi (one way) hike with a 1000ft elevation change (Williams Lake is at about 11,000ft asl). The trail is challenging over the first mile (lots of rubble and rocks) and does not give any view (all within the forest), but as closer you get...More

I did this solo after being in Taos for business. Didn't want to go to the top alone. Williams Lake was a great choice. A good workout but made it up in less than an hour. Fair amount of people and animals on the trail....More

Williams Lake is a must for us when we are in Taos. So beautiful and the foliage was superb. The little ground critters were out in force. We named two of the little chippies at the lake Chunky and Scarbelly.

Me and my 5yo daughter did this hike (with my 2yo in a baby backpack). It was a bit challenging in places but my daughter was a trooper. We had done Tent Rocks a few days earlier and they are somewhat similar in difficulty -...More

It isn't for the faint of heart, although it's more intermediate hike, it takes about an hour and half to get to top from the Bavarian Restaurant. It's worth it - you feel so accomplished when you arrive. Bring a picnic basket and chill for...More
