A Life Worth Investigating

A short peek into an immensely interesting life. I bought "Blood and Thunder" by Hampton Sides when leaving. Read it, or any biographical material on Kit Carson, before you go.

The Kit Carson Home and Museum has an informative video and a good selection of historical documents and items. The information on his life is very interesting. There is not really much to see at the site, but there is enough to make the visitor glad that someone had the foresight to save the site. There is a gift shop... More

This is one of his residences. Despite his legend as an Old West scout, if you read the displays and Wikipedia carefully, he was a ruthless, murderous son-of-a-gun. Those were hard times I suppose.

This museum and home provided a look into the 1800s and the life of a frontiersman, trapper, scout, Army officer, and Indian agent. The displays contained furniture, artifacts, and photos. The written documentation did an excellent job of explaining everything. I am so glad we stopped here and highly recommend this museum.

Kit Carson items from his time, historically unique. Arts and Crafts Fair being held, was enjoyable with jewelry, food, clothing and music playing. Really well arranged for walking around and enjoying the day outside.

A lot of old history that I didn't know. I like to read history but I learn so much going thru the museum. Each of the rooms were full of things to learn. Great for kids, adults too.

I knew the name before we went, but came away with a better understanding of the man and his role in New Mexico history. Short, self guided tour, time well spent.

Kit Carson's actual home. Guided tour was excellent, home contains many period relics and provides a real sense of what life was like during the pioneer days. Within walking distance of Taos Square - free parking in public lot about 1 block east off Kit Carson Road. Small admission price is good value. Gift shop adjacent to museum.

Watch the video presentation before you tour home, it gives you a peek about some things about him you won't know otherwise. It's very well restored.
