A great 3 night stay with 6 game drives and saw the big 5 +
Sep. 2019 • Couples
A great lodge! AC, comfortable bed, porch in the cabin. Great food 3 times a day. Excellent and helpful staff. The guides and trackers are the best. They will get you not just a distant sighting but up close views. Many animals and of dirt and paved roads. WE WILL GO THERE AGAIN!

The big 7, what an experience!
Aug. 2019
We travelled to Idube Lodge for the second time and the environment was so different, it was incredibly dry, the waterholes in places were empty, however this created a vast challenge for the trackers an drivers and they absolutely delivered, They worked with nature and not only showed us the wildlife, Brandon did a star gazing session and exposed his vast knowledge on the universe. Exceptional stay, the accommodation was outstanding as was the service. Thanks Idube, see you next time

Wildlife viewing in Idube is spectacular! Guiding is world-class and leopards literally wander by the lodge. Please read my full review on the Idube Game Reserve Lodge.

WOW! What an experience!

I have a few tips below for future guests to make the most of your stay at Idube, but first an overview of raves. I love that this is a more laid-back and casual reserve and lodge. By that I mean it offers great comforts and amenities, nicely appointed cabins and rooms, and pampering service, but you can wear your jeans and sneakers to dinner.

I loved that we could laze privately on our cabin's back deck, dipping our legs into our personal mini pool or beside the main pool, or in the cool of the indoor patio of the main lodge and from any of these vantage points we could watch a family of warthogs and several nyala who wandered into the grounds each day to graze, the male nyala occasionally grappling horns to assert their lustiness. Occasionally vervet monkeys would scamper through the treetops as well and a genet stealthily explored the dining area one night, perching amidst the coffee cups.

The game drives are, of course, the raison d'etre and every outing rewarded us with incredible up-close views of animal profiles and action. Our ranger Brogan and tracker Culture ensured that not only did we find great sights, but that we were well-positioned in the midst of the action to take photos or just watch. And the thrill of off-roading, jouncing through brush and ruts, to get to that just-right spot to see a leopard emerge from the shrubs, added to the excitement. During our 4-night stay we encountered all big 5, some of them multiple times, plus many others.

We dined and drank heartily throughout our stay. Drinks are not part of your upfront reservation costs but are so reasonably priced. The variety of food was excellent and it was part of the adventure to try kudu one night and have salmon the next.

Tips: There is a small exercise room at the lodge -- I wish I'd paid attention to this and brought running shoes rather than hiking boots so I could've used it. There's not really any way to get any cardio exercise in any other way there given that the lodge grounds are small (nowhere to go jogging) and you're sitting in the safari vehicles during outings. We did a bush walk one day but running shoes would've served as well for that as boots.

Don't fill up on the continental breakfast offerings before you find out what entree options they offer. We enjoyed some fine omlettes.

Take a book and binoculars and relax for a while in the observation bunker looking out onto the pond. It's a cool spot in hot weather and you might get lucky and have your patience rewarded by seeing something cool go by.

The wonderful staff made our safari vacation beyond all expectations
May 2019 • Friends
Our group of 4 spent 3 nights at Idube Game Lodge located in the heart of Sabi Sands Game Reserve. We enjoyed the 2 chalets that are connected, called the Makubela Suites. From the moment we arrived, Michelle and Charita made us feel right at home. Throughout our stay, they are more like friends, always making sure we're enjoying our time here.

Our suites are decorated beautifully. Equipped with AC and heat and a ceiling fan, it is comfortable in any weather. Double sinks in the bathroom, with a shower and tub. Also has an outdoor shower. It also has a viewing platform, we often watched animals stroll on by: nyalas, warthogs, monkeys. Each evening we got a turn down service. The bed is very comfortable. The quiet evenings were great since we woke up so early each day for the morning game drives.

Meals here are outstanding. Breakfast and lunch are served in the open air structure next to the swinging bridge leading to the hide for animal viewing near the waterhole. It is buffet style and you can mix with other guests, talk about the activities and get to know other travelers. We really liked the interactions. Dinners are served in the boma, with a roaring fire. The multi-course dinners are always beautifully presented, as well as delicious. Our friends celebrated their wedding anniversary here, they served our group dinner in the special sunken area with a complimentary bottle of champagne. That was super special.

Let's face it, the most important part of a safari is the game drives. We went on 3 morning and 3 evening drives. Our ranger/guide Cameron and tracker Ronald are simply superstars. Their hard work made our experience A++++. They seem to enjoy each other's friendship, and made our happiness their #1 priority. Our very first drive, 5 minutes into the trip we saw a pack of wild dogs. The abundance of animals was amazing: Big Five; wild dogs; zebras; giraffes; hippos, impalas, nyalas, hyenas. One morning Ronald got off the vehicle to track down a leopard, instructed Cameron to wait on the other side, sure enough, out came walking the leopard!! We had leopard viewing on 5 out of our 6 game drives. A couple of times, we viewed the "kill" impala hanging up in the tree, with the leopards just hanging out!!!

The animal viewing is more than just a "zoo" experience where you get a glimpse of them. We really appreciated Cameron and Ronald that provided closeup observations: watching a baby elephant getting "cheeky"; 2 male elephants shaking the fruit tree; hippo running (out of water), supposedly to be rare; 2 wildebeest locking their horns. They also made sure we got to see the wild dogs the second time near the river. One evening, we were leaving to return to the lodge after viewing lions. In the dark came the lioness walking back on the road to the pride. All the lions starting roaring and calling. Out came the cubs to greet their mom. What a moment!! All of this and they still made sure we had morning tea/coffee and sundown drinks!! Unbelievable attention to service.

While everyone will experience different things on safari, we really appreciated what this lodge provided during our 3 nights stay. The indescribable feelings will be with us long after our Africa trip. When we return to Sabi Sands again, we will not look anywhere else but Idube!!

An amazing holiday for our family.Highly recommended.
Apr. 2019 • Family
We stayed at Idube for 4 nights with our 2 teenage sons and my 80 year old mother. We all had an amazing experience and would highly recommend this lodge.
From game viewing where we were literally metres away from leopards, lions and elephants to delicious food at all meals to clean ,comfortable accommodation Idube ticked all the boxes. Our thanks to all the friendly and helpful staff(Michelle, Andrew Peter and Able) that made our trip a memorable one but special mention to our guide,Cameron and our tracker, Ronald who were professional, informative, enthusiastic, personable and caring. Our safety never felt compromised whether we were 4WDing through the bush tracking a leopard on the hunt or sitting quietly while a huge elephant glided silently behind the truck. Their determination to share their passion for the bush and its beautiful wildlife made our holiday amazing. We went on to spend another 4 nights in a different lodge in another area but quite honestly we'd been spoilt with the amount and variety of animal sightings and the hospitality at Idube.

Enjoyable Game Drives
Jan. 2019 • Couples
The game drives were very good with knowledgable Game Guide and Tracker. Saw plenty of Leopard. Accommodation was good, staff were friendly and accommodating. Was a bit disappointed in the food i felt that the offerings could have been much better. Would revisit just for the game viewing.

Fabulous experience at a reasonable price
Dec. 2018 • Couples
Idube is a small (intimate) game lodge which provides comfortable accomodation and some fabulous game viewing with friendly knowledgable rangers & spotters.
In 3 days we saw The Big 5 + a pack of Cape hunting dogs, hippo and the rest of the usual African game (some in the camp). You'll also get at least one bush walk.
The food is not bad either.

One of the best Lodges i've stayed at
Sep. 2018 • Solo
I stayed at Idube for 2 nights (wish it was 2 weeks) in early September and i can't recommend it highly enough.
I've stayed in over a dozen lodges all over Africa and Idube was one of the best.

The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for me. I asked to see the Brown Parrots that frequented the lodge and all the staff were continually on the lookout.

The guides, Kenneth and Culture were incredible. They were continually asking everyone in the vehicle if their views were ok during sightings (and there were heaps of those).

The lodge itself was quite good. It's all solid buildings so not like the Tented camps that are common throughout other areas. The rooms are air conditioned and very well appointed. Everything you'd expect from a 4 star lodge.

The dinning and bar ares were great and i just thought the whole ambience of the lodge with Nyala, Warthogs etc wandering around the grounds was fantastic.

The sightings at Idube were exceptional to say the least. Seen all the big 5 with Leopards being the standout. Also seen Cheetah an abundance of birdlife and a great variety of Antelope etc.

I'll defiantly be returning to Idube in the future
