New Mexico skies over crazy rock formations equals wow. Rent a satellite phone and get a GPS app to hike here, but worth it!

Spectacular scenery, and free parking, what's not to love. Marked signs from the highway, and the dirt road is well maintained but dusty. There is a big wash running to the west, with parking on the south side. South side has more concentrated 'cool stuff'...More

If you have the time it is certainly worth the effort to explore this wilderness. Most of the interesting views are fairly close to the improved parking area.

This place is special in the type of formations it offers, a great BLM location for free hiking. Make sure to take water with you.

This place is wild. No marked trails and like a maze. We proceeded carefully and put effort into knowing, marking, and remembering where we came from... as best as possible. Casually approaching a hike here would be a big mistake and I'm not surprised that...More

We live in the area and have visited the Bisti and De Naz Zin many many times and highly recommend as it's not like any other place or hike most people have done. No trails so you're on your own so as mentioned in others...More

This unique wilderness area is worth the trip! Make sure you bring a GPS or, at the very least, a compass and plenty of water. There is no shade or shelter and it's very easy to lose your way. We spent four hours hiking around...More

First , the pros: - simply put you can't find anything like the Cracked Eggs anywhere else. To me that alone deserve to be on the Bucket List. -The hike is pretty easy if you go around the hills and not climbing over any. -...More

We had read a review of this location and ventured out to hike it early one morning while staying in Farmington. I highly recommend it (take plenty of water and salty snacks). However, I would not recommend this hike alone. Take a partner. You can...More

This is one of those places you don't want to miss regardless of weather. The road from Farmington is paved & the short section after that should be well taken care of.

You may also try searching for a photography tour. My trip was part of one but they only do 1 or 2 tours a year there.

It's a hot, dry area with some hard walking so water up. More is better in this place. I would consider keeping the dog on a leash due to the snakes and terrain.
