Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I sought shelter there last night through the first substantial winter storm of the season. When I woke this morning, there was three feet of snow in front of my truck forming a drift ten yards long, and directly in my path. I set to shoveling snow with my folding shovel, which is hardly bigger than a garden spade. After digging an hour, a park pickup appeared at the gate. I raised my shovel in jubilation, which quickly fled once I noticed it wasn't equipped with a plow. I did take note of the large bumper it had, but being one to help myself, I continued to dig. A short while later, the same truck came around the building now sporting a plow, but I was completely ignored. He proceeded to plow everything other than the area I was in, which was directly in front of the visitors center, near the entrance. There was no possibility that I wasn't noticed in the five or six times he passed by, At times, he even appeared to be watching me as I shoveled, packed, and rocked the truck in my efforts to get free. It took four hours total to get free, three of which were after the employee arrived. He never returned my waves, never offered help, and certainly did nothing to make my predicament any easier.
When I saw the seal on his door after that first hour, I thought for sure I was saved. His actions have severely curtailed my faith in New Mexico State Parks, and as a result, I may never feel the same about them. Had I been less equipped, I would still be there.
I will not be returning to Eagle Nest Lake during any season as a result.

Once again Eagle Nest Lake does not disappoint! We fished Saturday morning into the afternoon. For for 6 hours of bank fishing. It was awesome!!!! Started off a bit slow but the action picked up. Almost losing a rod to a wide inch fighting rainbow....lol. All in all again a fabulous time with my Dad and son.

This is one of our favorite campgrounds - we like to come up every summer to escape the heat. There are only 19 sites here with no hook-ups but they all have views of the lake and the mountains. About half the sites are first-come. There's water available in the park but no dump station. The sites are nicely spaced apart and there's a covered picnic table and fire pit/grill at each. We usually see elk in the late afternoon and prairie dogs throughout the day - lots of birds. The marina is right next to the campground and lots of people come daily to go fishing here, but it's far enough that there's no noise for campers. it's nice and quiet with breezes blowing and spectacular views. We had good Verizon service when we camp here in our motorhome.

Beware no showers, people are rude, and the prices are expensive in town. Would not stay at Eagle nest state park again!!!

It is always an amazing sight in winter to see the lake frozen over. Worth the drive. Dress warm. An easy drive from Taos.

The views of the surrounding mountains and meadows are awesome. The visitors center is top notch. There are not a lot of activities other than just enjoying the views and picnicking. The abundant prairie dogs are fun to watch.

Bank fishing or off the docks, whatever you want to do. The day started off calm but quickly brewed up some wind and rain. We caught a couple crappies, which was good, but the best part was how beautiful the views were.

You might think of state park as big and not sitting right next to town. You'd be wrong. You can actually see all of this park from the highway and the best view is at an overlook on 64 going out towards Cimmaron. The town of Eagle Nest basically surrounds the lake. It is a very pretty alpine lake but unless you fish seeing it is about all there is and that won't take long.

We stayed at a nice site overlooking the lake. We had nice weather. It became disruptive when a couple took their dogs for a walk without leashes. Their dogs ran at us and barked loudly. Their owners had little control over them. The man a pudgy with long black hair and woman a blonde was unsympathetic. The pit latrine was over full and stinky. It was never cleaned out over the past three days there. Thanks for reading. The Bike Chaplain

If you are looking for all kinds of amenities, forget it. But if you can dry camp, no electric, etc., this is a fantastic campground. You can walk out of your camper and not immediately have to shake hands with your neighbor. The sites are spacious and the scenery from your site is picturesque. The campground is well maintained next to a beautiful lake.
