The hike around the City of Rocks is rough on my old arthritic knees but well worth it in the end. Beauty in the arid Southwest.

Can't add too much to the previous reviews. But DO VISIT the visitor's center and ask to see the video. Called a "city" because of the spaces formed between the rocks are like lanes and/or streets.

A couple of hours would be plenty. That being said, we felt as though we would like to camp there at a future date as it is so unique.
