Angel Peak Scenic Recreation Area was truly a surprise. Had no idea such beautiful and colorful rock formations with deep canyons were here. New Mexico's little badlands is what we named them. A real hidden gem. We enjoyed driving our jeep around on this land...More

We were on our way to Durango after an unsuccessful attempt to visit Chaco Canyon; after a couple of rain storms a stock pond dam broke and washed out the road about a mile from the Visitor Center, and I mean it washed it out....More

We intended to hike to Angel Peak, but my wife didn't feel up to it and a thunderstorm blew in. From the highway you would barely know this is here. The gravel road is long, but very driveable. We went all the way to the...More

Beautiful vistas and so much to take in. We took our time and met others that were visiting the area, most for the first time. We will be back

This was a very beautiful area with plenty of photo ops. New Mexico is filled with many beautiful sights and this is definitely one of them.

Magnificent and surprising views of New Mexico Badlands. Angel Peak pictures require a zoom lens - so I think.

For free its a good spot. Very few level spots for tents. Pretty scenery. But!!!!! Its an active drilling area, so smell of petroleum and sounds of venting and drilling all night long. The oil wells and roads definitely detract from the view.
