Suci Place

Suci Place

About
Over the years "Suci Place" is created by Matahari Tulamben Resort, Dive & SPA together with the TEAM from the Dive Center. The idea was to have an own housereef and give other divers a new dive spot in Tulamben. Without sponsoring from outside! Only when we put the stupas (because of to heavy) we got help from the dive organisation and the fishermen (with the jukungs) in Tulamben. The place got the name “SUCI” because the translation to Indonesian language means “holy”. We startet in 2012 until 2017 and we still continue. In the moment we have in the project like this: Several Statues from Hindu Gods: Brahma, Wisnu, Siwa, Saraswati, Sri, DURGA, Baruna, Ganesha, Different Buddha Statues (sitting and laying) From Mahabaratha Epos: Arjuna and Drupadi 6 Stupas 2 security lions 3 small temple 6 objects similar like stupas several artefacts for make a boarder and projects from iron to grow corals. The place is very populare for all inhabitants of the ocean. From small critters, all kind of fishes, giant moray eel and even Mola Mola was meeting there.

Apart from Liberty Wrack, this is another interesting site to explore and I believe many divers will definitely love this area except the shore entry is a bit challenging but shouldn't be huge issue for most divers and that period we went was pretty calm.

Suci Place is a shore dive directly in front of and creatd by the Matahari Resort Dive and Spa.

The dive is an easy, leisurely dive amonst statues, stupa's and other man made objects designed to encourage coral growth and fishlife to make a home. The entrance is directly in front of the Matahari Resort, which has also provided a rope to hold onto assisting in entering an exiting the water. A very thoughtful addition as the rocks are the same type as the USAT Liberty and the rest of the beach. Round, loose under foot and can be slippery.

The site is more than large enough to spend 40 minute to over an an hour exploring and is still growing with hard and soft corals taking hold on the statues and structures and things to search for on the black sand.

Others have mentioned currents however we didn't encounter any on our dives and thoroughly enjoyed our dives at Suci Place.

The site is starting to show its potential as a macro site worth diving for its own sake, not just an alternative to the Liberty or Drop Off.

Congratulations Matahari Resort.

After a five year break from diving, I was a bit anxious returning to it again, but the staff of Matahari Dive center helped ease my mind by being attentive to my limitations and patient while I reacquainted myself with my long lost skills, helping me retrieve my confidence to enjoy diving again. Two thumbs up! I love the Buddha statues and the interesting sea life around here -- definitely gave the dive a very special zen vibe and was a peaceful start for more great dives to follow. This place is a must!

At Suci Garden, how it called, you will have nice trooper fish as your new best friends. Specily if you start you dive shortly before sun goes down, everything is in harmonie. but if sun is complet down, the fish are getting nervouse cause of the trooper.
One time we had luck to see 5 black tip direct beside us, 20 meter from the dive base.

You can dive this underwater statue garden directly from the Tulamben Dive Resort...I ate breakfast while my husband snorkeled the statue garden...They have built this as a point of interest and it's great.

Thank you for your nice feedback. We only want to clarify: this dive spot is just in front of MATAHARI Tulamben Dive Resort and we built this dive spot for everybody without any donations... We are happy that you liked our house reef :-)

Was disappointed. Thought this place would be bigger with more sunken statues but really only a few of them. Still a neat experience but only worth one dive in my opinion.

Very sad to hear that you dont like our project. But please keep in mind: This is a private created Dive Spot and we pay everything by ourself. Without a single Rupiah or Dollar donation. It took us time and lot of money to ordered this statues, stupas and arthefacts. And if divers dont care and distroy sometimes the place we take care and rebuilt it. Every diver can go there and lot of creatures love to stay there already. Matahari Tulamben Resort, Dive & SPA Suci and the TEAM

As the title says, great for photography, mostly macro.
Sometimes sharks, bumphead parrotfish and a lot of clownfish

We didn’t know we would be passing close to the majestic, underwater garden of statues of Suci Place. We had little time left on our dive when we passed along the edge, so we asked our guide to take us on another dive to the garden. If done right, you can do a relaxing drift dive through the statues, pausing along the way to enjoy the ones you like, or take pictures. As with shore dives I. That area, getting in and out of the water can be a bit difficult if there are larger waves. The shore is large, unstable rocks and getting a good footing can be a challenge. If you’re in the area, it’s a must see dive spot.

You rate our private financed underwater project as a "Must see Dive Spot!". Thanks for that. You found it worth to go another time to our place but your rating is "average". In our opinion not balance. If you would not like our project we would understand because this is a personal opinion. That the beach in Tulamben is rocky has nothing to do with our project and if you start the diving in front from our Dive Center you would know that we have a rope to make it easier to come in and out of the water. Special when there are waves. We say big "thank you" to the divers which appreciate that we created a dive spot for everybody with our own money. Greetings from Matahari Tulamben Resort, Dive & SPA

If you are staying at the Matahari Tulamben Resort, that dive site is the easier to reach as it is located just in front of the resort.

It's an easy (but there might sometimes be a bit of a current) and original (decorated with artefacts) dive site for beginners. Somehow less interesting for more experienced divers but it is worth seeing once.

Thank you Alan to report our private project which we created without any donation from outside :-) Sometimes there is current in complete Tulamben bay and not only in "Suci Place". Often you can find critters in this place and lot of fishes. Even Mola Mola visited the place as well as a whaleshark and giant murray in the night. The critters are sometimes seasonal and may be you had just bad luck when you went there. But I am happy that you like the place and gave a feedback. Thanks also for the other nice reports. Would be great to welcome you sometimes again and hopefully then you will have more luck and can find special critters in "Suci Place". Greetings from Suci and the TEAM
