About
Purpa Fine Art Gallery offers a unique collection of contemporary art by both established and emerging artists. We have represented most of the artists, not only Indonesian artists but artists of all nationalities who live in Bali or spend time here. Some of the artists are now recognized worldwide such as Walter Spies, Antonio Blanco, Hans Snell, I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, Miguel Covarrubias, Arie Smit, Krijono and many others. It has been our goal to work with our artists for the long term, assisting them through their careers by exhibiting their works at our gallery and placing them in prominent collections. We strive to present works by emerging and mid career artists that inspire, excite, and intrigue our diverse clientele. Ari Purpa

We had a taxi back from Ubud to our hotel and this place... well painting on the wall caught my eye. Following day my friend and I tracked down this gallery. I didnt buy my painting there and then, it is huge and not cheap, so I needed to think about out. Following day I knew I had to have it as it was bugging me. The chap in the shop was extremely helpful and all I could think after I bought it was how to get it home. I paid; which I now know now was probablylot of money, but to me the painting is well worth it and thats all that mattered. Next day I collected the paining (which is oil on canvas) rolled in a drain pipe. Airport I checked in thinking this was going to be an issue, and it wasnt, not at all. Gatwick it popped out the other side. My best purchase from all of my holiday including my diamonds from Dubi.

Great selection of art in a popular location.
We had a fantastic experience at Purpa Fine Art Gallery. Sebastien was friendly and knowledgeable and, although we didn’t meet his lovely wife in person, Ari was very communicative via WhatsApp and oversaw the framing of our art efficiently - in fact, this was probably the only time something in Bali was actually done ON TIME.
Highly recommended.

I have purchased several pieces of art work/paintings at Purpa Fine Art Gallery when visited Bali/Seminyak and loved each and every piece of their collection. It was quite hard to select given the wide variety of art they have. The owners/staff at the Gallery was most helpfull with information and also to help us with the history of each item we were interested in. I would recommend people to have the same pleasant experience we had and also collect some significant pieces of local art at affordable prices.

This gallery was a treat to visit. The artwork is diverse with many local and international artists. The gallery host I spoke with was warm and friendly. She had a good knowledge of the artists and the collection. I purchased a painting which I enjoy everyday.

Lots of mass produced tourist tat. A couple of interesting pieces, but for the most part disappointing.

This place is a real diamond in the rough for art lovers in Bali. We had trawled through all of the galleries in Seminyak to try to find some authentic Indonesian art but could not find anything but the usual knock offs and pop art. We googled again and happened upon Purpa. We were thrilled with the authentic selection - so many beautiful pieces. We purchased 3 canvasses which we absolutely love.

This is a great place. I found it on Trip Advisor. And I'm glad I did. I was looking on TA for art galleries in Bali because a handful of people told me that I should buy Balinese art during my visit here. (It's a separate matter that I wouldn't normally trust these people on anything art related. But I decided to do some digging nonetheless on why the idea that one should buy art in Bali pervades the tourist mindset.)
So here's the bottom line: the Balinese art scene is an ocean of mediocrity dotted with tourist trap "galleries". You will do well to avoid most of them.
Purpa in Seminyak bucks the trend. It's a great place (I know I've already said that). Ari, the owner, was behind the desk herself. It's always nice dealing with someone who owns the business. She's enthusiastic and knowledgeable and patient and exerts zero pressure to buy.
The reason I liked the gallery is that you could place it in any other city in the world and she would still do well. The works she picks have that character. Are all the works great? Maybe, maybe not. But that's art. Its subjective.
I found four artists I liked. But two of them were somewhat "investment grade" (read multi thousand dollars for each work) and will need me to research and think a little more. Not the kind of sums I wanted to splurge on between snorkeling and lunch. But I found two artists that were lovely AND affordable. And I ended up picking 9 works. 6 of one and 3 of the other. Maybe these artists will be famous one day. Maybe they won't. But that's the whole point of a collection. You back your instincts.
Anyway, if you are like art, you must visit. Chances are you will like something.

I am an avid traveler, I have always loved art and I really enjoy visiting art museums and galleries. I had a specific goal for my recent visit to SE Asia - shopping for my home! We visited many countries and cities in the region, but, shopped the most in Bali. From furniture to art, we found the most amazing stuff at great prices.
I came across Purpa art gallery on Trip Advisor and after looking at a lot of street art decided to visit Ari's gallery. I am so glad I found her! She is friendly, knowledgeable and works with you all through the decision-making process.
We looked at works of various local and some international artists, her collection makes it tough to choose just one piece! Ari has an impeccable eye and taste which reflects in her amazing collection.
We acquired work of up and coming Indonesian artist, Sugita. This young artiste's Indonesian roots meet contemporary colors and the result is a truly spectacular work of art (which for privacy reasons I can't show here), I am so pleased with this purchase, it's a high-end piece of work with an upscale price tag but the compliments and attention I have been getting on this piece makes it worth every $$$.
Purpa Art Gallery is a fantastic place for every art lover. I can hardly wait to visit again!

This was our second trip to Bali and we were determined to take home a memorable and unique piece this time. We travelled in Ubud and Seminyak and really couldn't find anything authentic and unique. When we came across Purpa, both my wife's and my eyes were wide open and happily jumped into the gallery. In addition to the lovely owners, we liked two artists and a couple of pieces of their works. We got one canvass that we both loved and wanted to get another. Then we thought it would be a good reason to come back and meet the lovely couple again and get some more pieces.

I visited this gallery after reading some great reviews here. We were warmly welcomed by Ari and her husband and although I wasn't expecting to purchase a piece, they had my favourite artist's work there. Ari sent me all information I requested and went out of her way to deliver the piece to me, ready to take home. She was a delight and the gallery is a worthwhile way to spend your time in Bali.
