Loved the cooking class
Feb. 2020 • Friends
I have recently returned home to the UK, luckily Chef Dean emails over the recipes from the cooking class so I can now cook these dishes for my friends and family!

I did this cooking class last week my only regret was that I didn't do the market in the morning, however I did attend the cooking class and I loved it, we had lots of fun and Chef Dean has lots of knowledge on the history of the food and has some really interesting stories and he is really engaging.

We had a great day cooking, we made crispy duck, lamb curry, chicken curry and different salads. The best was tasting it all at the end!! I would definately recommend this class

Amazing food, but lack of hands on cooking.
Feb. 2020 • Couples
Chef Dean is very knowledgeable about traditional Indonesian cuisine and speaks with great passion and enthusiasm. All assisting chefs were lovely and spoke good English. Spice lecture was interesting, however a little long winded. Class included hands on preparation of Bumbu (Indonesian curry paste) and how to section and prepare a raw chicken for cooking various dishes. Food prepared was of amazing quality and the satay was the best we've tried in Indonesia. However, the class lacked hands on cooking of dishes and I would consider it more of a preparation class as opposed to a cooking class. I was also disappointed that recipe cards were not given at the conclusion of the day. If you are looking for a class to learn about Indonesian cuisine, eat some amazing food and not get too hands on, look no further than this class. If you enjoy eating dishes you have actually learned to prepare and have a true passion for cooking, I would recommend looking for a different class.

Amazing, must for lovers of bali cooking and history
Jan. 2020 • Couples
Chef dean went above and beyond with the cooking class. He gave details on the recipes, the histories of spices, and bali. The food and cocktails were phenomena and the market tour was fascinating.
I would recommend this tour for anyone visiting any region of bali!

Second time I have been lucky enough to attend Deans cooking class...its an amazing experience
Oct. 2019
My friend is petrified of cooking classes because she can't cook, so if you have this as an issue don't let it hold you back. You get to chop, cook and eat fantastic food. If you purchased the drinks package which is next to nothing, you are served cocktails throughout the day and then you all sit in his beautiful Deli (spicery) and are served the dishes again with more drinks.
One of Deans unique experiences on this course is that he goes through the spices in a very animated way so you understand their origins and indeed other ways to use them. I will keep that a secret as you need to do his class. He made a chocolate orange martini that was to die for and best of all you get all the recipes emailed to you. I have had a couple since I got back and have only been back in Australia for 3 days...naughty I know.
If I had to pick just one cooking class in Bali...this is definitely the one to do. As I had done Deans course a few years prior I knew what to expect...however it has elevated to a new level. You get to try their home made ice cream (Bella Bella) which they not only sell in a booth just outside the cafe and it's on the menu, but it is so good many of the 5 star resorts use it exclusively.
Go, have fun, learn lots, drink plenty and come away feeling like you paid for a bargain given what you achieved and eaten.
Be prepared however to be there until about 3:30 or 4pm even though it starts at 8:30am, it is a full days experience and trust me, you will not need dinner that night.
Congratulations Dean for being so creative, charismatic and informative. What a truly wonderful day.
I hope Dean will come to Melbourne one day (he is British) so I can take him to Au De Vie ...again an establishment that creates cocktails like no other.

What a way to spend the afternoon!
Oct. 2019 • Family
We had a fantastic day with Chef Dean and his team.
This was a new experience for us, it was with my husband, 16 year old daughter and my parents. We were all a little apprehensive to begin with as it was outside of our comfort zone but we all walked away thrilled and very very full!!
Having read previous reviews it seems Chef Dean has taken onboard feedback and it made for a well rounded experience that we would absolutely recommend.

Thank you!

Great day
Aug. 2019 • Family
Having read the reviews we wanted to try this and learn about how to cook the food we have been eating this week. So glad we did. It was informative and fun and we had a great group. We did the market tour which is worth a look. Then back to do the cooking and the making of the sauces and the dishes which we eventually ate. Everything is explained and lots of fascinating tales.

All,in all a really good day and very informative.

Great Experience, worth every cent
Jul. 2019
Having been to Bali before we really wanted to do a cooking class and after doing the research this was the best one. There were 5 of us and 2 did the market tour and 4 had the included the alcohol package. Can I just Say that they certainly don’t skimp on the cocktails and Bintang’s!!
The course was well structured and Dean explained everything that he was doing, especially when it came to the spices and pastes and how all of the flavours complement each other. You also get a bit of a history lesson on a lot of the spices as well as Indonesia.
I would thoroughly recommend this course to the skilled and unskilled ‘chef’

Fantastic Foodie Experience
Jun. 2019 • Friends
Can’t recommend this highly enough.
Commenced at 0830 with a quick cup of coffee in Seminyak Square.
Then we were taken to Denpasar food markets which is quite the eye opener. Just be warned here they do try to sell you everything, so be firm.
Back to Seminyak Square at 10:30am to commence the cooking. To actually chop all the spices and prepare all the food gives you a whole new appreciation of Balinese food. Dean’s knowledge is amazing and his storytelling was captivating . It also included the tour of his gelato shop upstairs where we learnt the art of gelato making and of course a taste test. We had the famous ‘poo coffee’ also which was surprisingly delicious. The day didn’t end until after 4pm sitting down for ‘late lunch / early dinner’ to eat all the delicious food we’d helped cook. My goodness there was so much food and finished with a very generous gelato. $90 AUD 90 000 rupiah for the whole day. Slightly more for the alcohol package but the amount of alcohol served I’m surprised the guys who got it were still standing lol.

Next time I am in Bali I will repeat this class, loved every minute of it.
The skills and techniques learn where fantastic great fun. I had other student from across the world that made the day even better. We visited the Denpasar market in the morning and tried different fruits good experience.
Made 3 types of Bom Bom chilli bases and created twice cooked duck and lamb randang. We also created peanut sate sauce and much more all while having a cold beverage.
Deans knowledge and experience was amazing with talks on different spices and herbs used.
If you want the best day in Bali then contact Dean you won't be disappointed...
