Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate.

Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate.

With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world.

Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen.

We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

Last year we tried to get a table for lunch but the restaurant was fully booked. So this year we booked a table for two for lunch. We expected something exordinary but was disapointed. The food was ok but not exordinary. Not something you book a table for.

Daughter chose this as her ideal place to go to celebrate her 20th birthday - diverse menu with excellent food and outstanding service in a setting that is very hard to beat. We were treated so well!

We had a reservation for lunch at "The Stables" and had very good food. After that we meandered along the beautiful gardens and laws - all in all a great stay

We were in the area, during the recent fires and thought we would visit to show our support as we had visited a few years ago, the helicopters could still be seen controlling nearby fires. The staff spoke openly about their fear as they obviously had great pride in their jobs. Had a thoroughly enjoyable time and ordered some wines... More

As always Stables at Vergelegen didn't fail to please. A superb culinary experience at a magnificent farm with wonderful views. The service by Jacque was fantastic and the food truly magnificent. A visit to this historic farm is a must.

An enchanted forest, where kids ran wild and free, laughing under 400 year old camphor trees. Chasing peacocks and squirrels, trying to spot an owl or two. Moments filled with laughter, love, celebrating a New Year; friends, old and new.... a birthday, a picnic at one of the oldest farms in Cape Town. This is a farm you will fall... More

This was one of the most professional wine tasting experiences I have done. We sat outside and the very knowledgeable wine waiter brought out the wines to us and talked us through them. He was unhurried (he had a lot of other tasters to serve) and very courteous and helpful.

My wife and I visited the wonderful Vergelegen estate. We came for the gardens and the historical architecture and were not disappointed on either account. The gardens are both serene and beautifully laid out and the historic properties associated with an early Dutch East India Company governor were very interesting. Very much worth a visit.
