Vergelegen - no ordinary Estate.

Founded on 1 February 1700, Vergelegen (meaning "situated far away"), has been under the ownership of some of the world's great explorers and visionaries, each of whom, in their own way, have helped shape Vergelegen to what it is today: a world-class Estate.

With its world renowned handcrafted wines, history spanning over 300 years, heritage, exquisite gardens and refined cuisine, it comes as no surprise that Vergelegen continues to be the choice of the discerning visitor seeking a total sensory experience. For this reason, the Estate has borne witness to many visits of heads of state and celebrities from all over the world.

Think of Vergelegen to spend quality time on your own, with your family and friends or business associates - wine tasting centre and cellar tours, Camphors at Vergelegen Signature Restaurant, Stables at Vergelegen Bistro Restaurant and the Picnic, are only a few of a myriad of enjoyable activities at Vergelegen.

We invite you to experience the world of Vergelegen first-hand.

This was one of the highlights of our trip to this area. There is a lot of history here and much work has been done to keep and restore the buildings and estate. I'm sure the gardeners have job security. The landscaping if amazing. The wines are wonderful.

A long weekend was the only time we had in Cape Town. There was much to fit in, including the mandatory visit to a Wine Estate. Vergelegen had been suggested and with a sudden change in our plans for Saturday, we found ourselves with a afternoon to explore this absolutely amazing wine estate, so full of history and so beautifully... Among the wine estate in South Africa Vergelegen seems to be the most beautiful estate. It covers a big area not far from Somerland West, was founded i 1699. The history of the foundation of the estate was not praiseworthy as the work was done by hundreds of slaves from Asia. But this story is openly told in the museum... More

We have been to a couple of wine estates - Vergelegen is definitely our favourite. What a beautiful estate with stunning gardens and a refined cuisine. We had lunch at the Camphors which takes its name from 300 years old giant camphor trees. The menu was unique and out of this world. One can choose a three course or 4... More

Booked the cellar tour before arriving in SA & was so pleased we did. Much more informative than the Wine Tram tours , as you receive a full one hour + tour of the cellar & winery. Followed by a tasting of 4 of their quality wines , including their award winning GVB Red . Unfortunately picnic was cancelled due... More

By now we had visited quite a few wineries so arriving at yet another for more wine tasting was starting to get a bit repetitive, BUT this winery is a must do. Yes we did the wine tasting but better than that was our picnic lunch under the trees in a truly magical setting. Plenty of stuff for kids to... More

We've been coming here as a family for 12yrs or so for the wonderful picnic and this year didn't disappoint. Food and service superb the wines exceptional and the location of the picnic in the camphor trees exquisite. Peacocks add to the fun and the estate is a tranquil place to wonder around and enjoy
