Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our first trip to the beach was mostly good. Though it was a bit overcast, there was little wind, and you could be there and enjoy the scenery. Every other time we visited, the weather was great, but the wind whipped the sand in all directions.

It took me a little bit less than an hour by MiCii Bus from Green Point in Cape Town to get to this beach (bus stop Northshore). Perhaps of all the (harbour) activity around, the beach is not as appealing as Camps Bay or Llandudno. Still in combination with exploring the port with the piers and fish restaurants, it is a nice outing. Within walking distance from the beach is the embarkation point for the cruise to Duikers Island.

We called here on a Sunday afternoon after doing the Chapman's Peak Drive from Noordhoek. Plenty of free parking right on the front and further back there are decent bars, cafes and restaurants etc. Could do with more seats on the front.

Quite a nice, long beach with lovely views in all directions but for some reason that I can't really explain, it doesn't really do it for me. In my opinion there are nicer beaches in the area. I may be wrong but perhaps it is more of a locals beach than a tourist beach.

We have walked this beach with its soft sand many times over the years. Parking is easy and safe. The only (-) point is that some locals don’t bother to pick up after their dog/s which is selfish for everyone else. But don’t let this put you off as it is only the hard of thinking minority. The views are spectacular.

Got off the hoho bus here as it is a pretty bay surrounded by the mountains. Picked up unusual mussel shells on the beach. Went for a paddle in the very clean sea which was warmer than the UK in late spring! Beach had very white sand but needed to wash my feet carefully afterwards as the sand felt quite sharp when it dried. Nearby fish and chips straight from the boats at Muriels made it a great stop then back on the hoho.

Two men followed my husband while begging for money. They were relentless and continued to follow us as we tried to walk away. The area did not feel safe for tourists. I recommend going to Camps Bay Beach which has great restaurants right in the water. Houts Bay Beach is beautiful but lacks shops and restaurants that cater to tourists.

The view is beautiful, the beach needs a MAJOR cleanup. It literally stinks. The municipality should clean up the beach on a regular basis, the old stinking kelp that washes up on this beach basks in the sun and starts to rot and stink. Generally a fishy smelling beach but worse is the muck on the beautiful soft sand. Not pleasant at all. Rather drive further to Llundando for a clean beach experience. Come on Republic of Hout Bay, you can and should do better.

Great place to spend the time, a lot happening despite rather cold waters even in summer. Great walkways and restaurants in all price classes. Like it.

A great white sandy beach. The sea was calm the day I was there, perfect for a swim or a stroll along the beach

Houtbay could be a very nice beach, if it were be a little more organized. There is just one nice place (Dunes) in the surroundings. Beach should be cleaned.
