Agriculture and a simple farm lifestyle is at the heart of Boschendal. One of the oldest farms in South Africa, founded 1685, the farm has grown with the passing centuries into a cherished source of wholesome produce, great wines and happy memories.

Set in the Drakenstein Valley surrounded by dramatic mountain landscapes, lush gardens and vines, the original farmstead complex is now a national monument with a rich and intriguing history of more than 300 years.

Today, Boschendal is a Cape winelands icon and a cherished wine and food destination. Our vineyards and fruit trees have been joined by vegetable gardens and a growing herd of free range, 100% pasture fed Angus cattle reflecting our commitment to serving wholesome farm-to-table food.

Guest accommodation is also a recent addition to the farm with luxurious cottage accommodation ranging from the exclusive and historic Rhodes Cottage built by Sir Herbert Baker to the elegantly restored Werf Cottages.

Cottage guests enjoy access to the entire farm where they can walk and cycle on trails through mountain fynbos, dine under the stars, have picnics and sundowners in exclusive areas, fly-fish in the dams and swim in pristine mountain water.

We stopped here on our way to Franschhoek. The gardens are beautiful and the deli is excellent. We will definitely be back for a picnic to soak up the beautiful views.

It's been a year since we got married at Boschendal. Booked a revisit and was thrilled to be greeted by many people who remembered us. Lunch at De Werf was amazing with wonderful views and good weather. We stayed in Orchard cottage 1, which was a double room and very comfortable with all things needed to make a nights stay... More

We were spoiled by the service in Franschhoek at La Bri and Haute Cabriere. They were more eager to explain the wines and answer your questions plus they changed the glasses for appropriate wines. Little details make the difference. But you should still check Boschendal out for a stroll and lunch- they give great advice on pairings.

What struck us most were the beautifully laid out gardens. We were only day trippers but thoroughly enjoyed the experience of visiting, dining and wine tasting whilst we were there.

One of the most famous wine estates, Boschendal has a good restaurant with an intimate atmosphere and nice view on the manor building, number of shops and beautiful garden. It is only a pity that the historical exhibition in the manor house, with it 17th century furniture, is closing definitely.

Of course the experience can be weather dependent but the staff at Boschendal do a fantastic job with the picnic. The food is very satisfying and tasty. Nice wine selection. Well setup in the gardens. Make sure you leave enough time to browse the gardens, walk down to the pony corral and take a carriage ride!

I went here with a large group on a business school trip in 2013. I loved this place. We did a wine tasting with chocolate pairing and it was fantastic. I bought a bottle of the 2013 Boschendal CLA Blanc de Noir wine with Mike Cape Malay and Salt chocolate and the White Lemon Verbena and Vanilla chocolate. Delicious!!! Would... More

Exquisite wine? Check. Beautiful Scenery? Check. Café? Check. Friendly staff? Check! This is one of my favourite wine farms that I tend to visit on a regular basis, and believe it, it's not for the wine! The farm has open grounds with wine tasting, a café, garden, restaurant and so much more scattered around. The whole places gives off a... More
