Description:

This historic estate was originally part of the great La Provence farm...

This historic estate was originally part of the great La Provence farm

given to French Huguenot farmers in 1694. Over the years the property was divided and the portion which is now Rickety Bridge was granted to Paulina De Villiers,

one of the first female land owners in South Africa, in 1797.

In the late 1980's the estate became known as Rickety Bridge due

to the old railway sleeper bridge which crossed the Franschhoek River

and provided the entry point to the estate. The rickety bridge was replaced in 1996 and the new bridge provides a safe crossing over the river.

Today, Rickety Bridge is a stately Franschhoek winery which has gone from strength to strength in recent years and the memory and pioneering spirit of Paulina De Villiers is celebrated by the flagship range of wines, Paulina's Reserve. These distinctive wines, as well as the renowned Rickety Bridge classic range and the Foundation Stone Range, have received many accolades and high praise in recent years.

Our first stop on the wine tram. A pretty place with a small play area for kids. We liked the sauvignon blanc wine here. The tasting price is waived if a bottle is purchased. The service at the time of tasting could be a bit more attentive but overall, it was good

We had lunch here accompanied, of course, by some of their wines. The service, food and wine was excellent. A beautiful setting and perfect for a long, lazy afternoon of wine tasting!

We tried three vineyards in the Franschoek area and this one was definitely the best. The wine tasting was perfect - five wines of the customers choice, and delivered to the table with explanatory tasting notes by our charming server. The quality of these wines was fantastic - well balanced, gorgeous wines. The Pinotage and Chardonnay were our favourites. This... More

This venue is really cool! Service was great, oysters very fresh! My fish cakes (smoked snoek) was amazing. Jenn had the mushroom lasagne and Carl and Karen enjoyed the curried prawns! Pinotage was our favorite!

I started with fish cakes which were great but could have done with two so should have ordered the main size as a starter. This was followed by a great fillet steak perfectly cooked. The staff were OK. Overall slighty dissappointed as I expected more but that is my problem. Worth a visit and I would have liked to do... More

The first stop on the wine tram did not disappoint. Great tasting of 4 wonderful wines for 40 rand per person. Relaxed setting and happy to have Edwina to guide us through the wines. Service with a smile and lots of enthusiasm for the wines.

Always worth going to Franschoek and this is a lovely winery. Slight disappointment that they only had white wines available for tasting. Ordered a few bottles as they were very good. worth the visit

Reception was fantastic and the waiters with attentive. We had the tasting portion number 3. Three wines paired with three dishes. Food was fantastic and was the wine. Started with prawn curry. Over to pork belly. Ended with a beef stew.
