There are free tours of the NJ state house available on certain days. We did the behind the scenes tour which took us from the attic to the basement. The tour guides were excellent . We highly recommend this to everyone.

Be sure to check the schedule and call ahead to check you can be accomodated. Be prepared for a trip through a metal detector and to provide your ID. The tour begins in the beautiful rotunda where you are surrounded by portraits of the former governors of NJ. The State Trooper on duty allowed us in Governor Christie's Reception area... More

Tours of the New Jersey State House are available M-F 10-3, the first and third Saturday of each month 12-3. There are no tours available on Sundays and State Holidays, also note that their are no self-guided tours so consider the schedule carefully so you do not waste a trip. Metered parking is available on West State street at 25... More

Old building design and construction is very interesting. This building has been around for a very long time and is beautiful.

A definitely highlight of my visit to Trenton. Visiting State Capitols is one of the most under-rated activities I can think of; tours are free, well-presented and the buildings tend to be gorgeous showcases. The NJ State House was no exception in this regard; the dark red rotunda was especially beautiful with handsome portraits of the former governors; the General... More

We have never been even though we are NJ residents. Our son was becoming a judge (enough reason to love the building). We saw many groups touring. The marble is stunning.

Our tour guide was amazing! We enjoyed the visit, but even more the tour that she gave us and the many little details that we heard.

Unusual to have a state house tour on a Saturday but they offer them twice a month which was great. The building itself as compared to other state capitals is about average. The outside is attractive but needs some work. It is hard to get a view of the entire building because it is blocked by other smaller buildings. The... More

Upon entering, we were required to show photo I.D. and were "airport" checked. We were asked to wear a Visitor's Badge during the tour. Parking is free and ample. The tour was free of charge. Our tour guide was friendly, professional and informative. We were given a tour of the Governor's office, the Senate and Assembly. Historic information about the... More

Wife and I visited her with our pet corgi last weekend so we could add it to our state Capitol stop. The front of the building is in much need of repair. I was appalled at this. The paint on the upper balcony was chipped and peeling. The state seal on the front steps was cracked and looked rusted. I... More
