The missiles were part of the New York harbor defense system. After the attack on 9-11-2001, the question still exists as to the best way to defend the harbor. A visit to this site can provide logistical cues.

Tours only given on certain times, need to check when, Cold war nuclear missile site,military base. Worth taking free tour when at beach.

I spent most of my summer afternoon exploring the Sandy Hook Lighthouse and some of the Historical Plans at Fort Hancock. The lieutenant historical house was decorated in the WWII time frame. All the park rangers were informative and eager to engage in a conversation.

I have not been at this park since the big storm. I know a lot of storm damage hit. I would not feel comfortable answering. Suggest you call the park. Wish I could be more helpful.
